OC in general does not have much nightlife. You can find a little bit of action in Costa Mesa near the 405 freeway (dance clubs), downtown Fullerton (bars), Anaheim (theme clubs). The Irvine Spectrum also has a collection of night spots. Generally though I have been disappointed at the OC/LA nightlife when compared to other cities like Scottsdale AZ, or Budapest Hungary. The latter blow away this region as far as socializing.

Default stay in the OC

Newport better than Huntington Beach. Sounds like you want to stay in south county. Dont know the price range, but the further you go north from Irvine the cheaper it gets and a little more dense. Most professionals stay in south county, ie Newport, Irvine, Laquna Niguel.

Dont worry about the night life. Always around the corner.

I'm a single, 30yr old male professional who is moving to Orange County for the next 3 to 6 months to work on assignment in Irvine. Trying to figure out a good place to live, I'd like to be relatively close to work but can do a bit of a commute (30-45 mins?) if it means having a better social life. I don't know anyone in the LA area, and I'm big into a place having a decent night life, friendly people to meet and a good scene to hang out.

Any suggestions are appreciated, by the looks of it so far either Newport or Huntington seem to be popular?

thanks!

Ok, if you are psuedo hippy then you might want to check out the canyon areas. Easy access to Irvine, Laguna Beach, etc. but you also have great Canyons for hiking, biking out doors stuff and priced really well compared to Irvine. The nice part is pretty much everything is a 1/2 hr. away. I am Realtor in the area who works with many singles so if you need any help don't hesitate to contact me.

SERIOUSLY? I lived in Scottsdale for 7 years and now live in Newport Beach. Scottsdale by comparison is very unfriendly and anti-social. I've had a much easier time meeting people in Newport.

I'm curious when you were there last ... Scottsdale was decent around 2000 or so but now it's dead, with the real estate market and economy crashing in AZ the bars and restaurants are shutting down one after another and Scottsdale "nightlife" has been taken over by the Tempe college scene. In fact Scottsdale has sunk even lower than Tempe at this point. Even on Friday and Saturday nights there are no more lines and everywhere you go is dead.
