Yeah, we can see where the Republican mentality has taken this country in the past 7 years. And I'd hardly stereotype all of L.A. county and northern OC as "hollywood liberal".

Traffic rules our lives in OC/LA. Many times I would love to go out, but I don't because I know there is a traffic jam on the freeway on Saturday night at 5pm. It's like being a prisoner of your own city. It doesn't matter to me anymore that Southern CA has such a large region because I can hardly wander anywhere during "normal hours" without getting stuck in bumper to bumper jams. I feel stuck in a box.

The girls are prettiest near Scottsdale, Arizona. OC is about average.

and we can see where the Democratic mentality as led Los Angeles & Cali to. It goes both ways. LA is majority Dems and the "hollywood liberal" mentality permeates metro LA. Not so much No. OC.

I can vouch for the "24/7" traffic problem around here. I don't think the highways of OC are any more congested than anywhere else, it just that the congestion never seems to end. Just this past Saturday, my GF and I drove from Fullerton to the LA Convention center to go to the LA Auto Show and there was stop-and-go traffic on the 5 from the 91 all the way into LA.....at 2pm in the afternoon....no accidents, just lots of cars.
Anyway, I also enjoy living in OC. Sure, its not perfect, but its a long way from terrible too.

The unemployment rate is about 2%, among the lowest in the nation. The local economy is healthy and stable. Great job market. Mission Viejo was named the safest city in the country by the FBI. Irvine and Lake Forest generally vie for that title as well. In most places, there are very few examples of poverty. You'll rarely see a homeless guy begging for money. It has less dangerous fault lines than in LA, I don't think OC has ever experienced a major earthquake in it's lifetime. And it looks very clean, in a Brady Bunch sort of way.
It's republican heavy, but people aren't exactly going to be throwing the bible at you. It tends to be more wealthy republican than religious republican.

Top Five Cities in the OC:
1. Santa Ana - truly a crappy place. It was determined to be one of the hardest cities to live in by some research.
2. Anaheim - great for Mickey-loving tourists, crappy for residents. But at least the city gets a lot of funds due the taxes from Disneyland. It's a great place to work for the city or local government.
3. Irvine - OC's picture perfect community. It's so nice and boring, you can just vomit thinking about it. But yeah, I would love to raise a family there.
4. Huntington Beach - Iconic beach city. Definitely the place to be.
5. Garden Grove - OC's very own Smallville. Diverse, humble, and crowded.
So the whole OC Republican scene is so in the past. Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Garden Grove, for the most part, are working and middle-classed Democrats. Irvine is definitely conservative, but Huntington is pretty open.
Due to the county's segregation, you get to experience many different environments here. If you want congestion, drive through Santa Ana. If you want tourism, play in Anaheim. If you want nice and clean, live in Irvine. If you enjoy the laid-back ocean scene, head to Huntington Beach. And if you don't really care for anything really, just settle in Garden Grove.

Remember Anaheim stadium and Disneyland are in OC. If you are willing to sacrifice your social happiness and willing to expose your children to the inevitable drug culture, for a high-paying job then OC may be for you. The smog is terrible, the traffic is a parking lot, and the day laborers are everywhere except the malls.

I have to agree with you. In fact I joined this forum after being a lurker because of your posts. In the thread about AA moving to Irvine was right on target. After I joined I noticed the thread was closed. I was not surprised.

The OC
i live in the mtns of so cal and have lived here for 20 plus years. i think orange county has a certain look about it. the sun shines differently and the sky is a different shade of blue. kind of a great place, if you can afford it.
with that said, i have also seen the pettiness and pretentious orange countians who consider any kind of budget shopping to be beneath them. where there is no way i would ever go to orange coast plaza....i don't have the clothes for it!!!
with your children in tow, i would be concerned with the public schools and kids can be about label clothing and correct shoes. i would not have wanted to raise my kids there on my budget!!!
growing up in los angeles county, it was a goal for a lot of us to move to orange county. i got close, cypress and cerritos was about as close as i got. I think if you keep your values in line and try to keep your kids reminded of good values, you all will do just fine
a gorgeous place to live, i think

Hey everyone this is supposed to be a "positive" forum....Lets keep it that way. People who want to be negative start another forum! I love OC, of course good and bad, like everywhere...but so so worth it!....and lets remember people the cost of housing is so expensive because....EVERYONE WANTS TO LIVE HERE!
