Default Public transit

Last time I visited southern California was over 10 years ago. From what I've read here, the traffic problem has gone crazy there.
What about public transit as a solution? If it takes hours to drive somewhere, isn't the government doing something to improve/extend public transit in the whole region?
Something has to change because if the roads are so clogged up (and getting worse) then it will start to have a hegative effect on the economy. Surely this is becoming a political debate point for anyone running for public office?

Yeah, they keep wanting to build trains from places like Fullerton to the airport. That's great if you happen to be going to or from Fullerton and the airport, but useless to anyone else. The problem is that there's no flow into and out of one specific area here like there is in SF or NYC.

There's not too much traffic on city roads in South Orange County. They are also still building freeways(241). Public transportation would be a waste of tax dollars.

Traffic in South Orange County is nowhere near the problem people exaggerate it to be. In fact, having moved here from Phoenix, the traffic density is a joy compared to what I was used to in Phx.

Mass transit in OC is a joke. There's the OCTD, but it is slow and nobody rides it unless they absolutely have to, so there are a lot of kids, poor people and those unqualified to drive. I've never had the oppportunity to use Metro Link.

I've lived in Tokyo and I wish all major cities had a train system like they do in those of Japan. Clean, efficient, and very very safe. Driving in Tokyo is a nightmare anyway and there are so few places to park people who do own cars, in extreme cases, have to take the train to their designated parking spot (this is not a joke). It is just a joy riding the trains in Japan.

I'm not judging, but I once read someone talk about it taking them 40 minutes to commute to work in Southern California (not sure the exact geographic area though). I thought, no biggie...until...they said it was 3 miles in 40 minutes! OMG! I would get out and walk or bike or skateboard at that rate! Hee hee!

Sorry, I am prone to silly moments of "a-ha" and

Metrolink is awesome, but really limited. OCTA is comprehensive but insanely slow and, by the looks of the riders, a pretty good place to catch tuberculosis.

Like the posters have mentioned above, traffic is really not that big of a problem within Orange County. Only when you want to go to LA or the 909 are you thwarted with impossible traffic.

I have a hard time believing that unless they were in the middle of LA during rush hour. That certainly isn't the case in OC. I've sat in that kind of traffic in Phoenix a few times but have never even seen it here. And if you are ok with the $1.50 or so exit tolls on the toll roads you'll never see *ANY* traffic.

We have taken the 73 a lot when we visit. Don't mind the $1.50 at all. Can make my own tea or coffee instead of going to Starbuck's
