Default Orange Co. loses 126400 Jobs in a year.

O.C. loses 126,400 jobs from 2008-09 - Handling Hard Times : The Orange County Register Fo those thinking about moving to Orange Co. and finding work it is still tough out there. This is nearly double the estimate from the EDD that put's the UE rate around 10% in OC.What I find as ridiculous is how unemployment can be around 10% when the corrected job loss numbers are nearly double, wouldn't that mean that the UE rate is a lot greater then 10%?

Wouldn't surprise me if the real unemployment number was much higher than reported. I don't believe government numbers anymore. And there is another number more meaningful than the unemployment number. That's the number of people either unemployed or being forced to take jobs far below their skills level. That number is closer to 20%.

I just don't get it. California is a mess. But the politicians keep ignoring the problem and go merrily along passing new environmental laws and throwing away money. Have they no interest in seeing California's economy improve? Sure enough they have jobs so perhaps they don't give a hoot about us, but don't they have family or friends who want to see a healthy economy? Or do they all have government jobs too?

Despite a rising level of confidence among workers when it comes to the financial stability of their employers, most employees, about 76 percent, said they are willing to take a pay cut, according to survey of 2,315 employees conducted by Harris Interactive for Glassdoor.com. And among those who are out of work, 88 percent said they would take less in salary in order to land a job.

Most workers willing to take a pay cut: poll - Careers- msnbc.com

Like precious recessions, the average worker will be worse off when its all over. Less pay and more work. Been that way since the 70s.

Less pay and more work is cleverly disguised as "multi-tasking".

I understand the message of the article but it would help if the amount of pay cut the employees were willing to take was mentioned. It's all relative, a 1% cut for a 99.9% chance at landing a job? Sure. A 20% cut for 1% increase in job likelihood? No way.

Dont feel bad OC. The Bay Area lost 300,000+(or 1 in 10) jobs from 2000-2001. It was a bloodbath.

Aliso Viejo CDP 5.1%

FWIW, Aliso Viejo became an incorporated city in 2001, and it has the lowest unemployment rate of any incorporated OC city. Still, even 5.1% is much, much too high.
