These are things I have seen and done over the years that I thought were lots of fun. Most of the events have web sites. Google for info.
Portland area: Oregon Musem of Science and Industry (OMSI) The Rose Gardens Washington Park Zoo The Oregon Forestry Center A concert at the Mt. Tabor Amphitheater The Saturday Market River tours - sternwheelers and jet boats Mt. Hood Jazz Festival Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. The Oregon Historical Society Museum at Champoeg Park. The Evergreen Aerospace Museum in McMinnville The A. C. Gilbert Children's Museum in Salem. Gilbert is the guy who invented the Erector Set children's toy. The Mission Mill Museum in Salem. The Siletz Tribe annual salmon bake and pow wow in Siletz. The Oregon Country Fair outside Eugene - July 13, 14 and 15 this year. Tickets required in advance, they won't let you onto the fairgrounds without a ticket. Ticket quantities are limited. The event sometimes sells out in advance. The Eugene Saturday Market. The Britt Festival in Jacksonville. The Shakespearean Festival in Ashland. |

I wanted to mention the Lighthouses on the Oregon coast. They have put the Lighthouse that's in winchester Bay on a U.S. postal stamp. I've seen this Lighthouse and the area around it. You can get some great views of the ocean from there.
I believe there are 9 Lighthouses in Oregon along the coast. All are worth seeing.

""Oregon Historical Society Museum"" downtown Ptld is pretty good too, and I recently found the library at the art museum (across the park blocks) It is free, very quiet, and very well stocked.
for the mechanical crowd, don't miss the "steam-up" at Brooks (last Weekend in July and first in Aug) and the truck show, same location, but later in Aug. Also the Dufur Threshing Bee, during the first week of Aug. |

I always enjoy seeing the Tall Ships that arrive in Coos Bay for about a week usually around the first part of May. The aboard ship tours and cannonball re-enactments out on the Bay are fun to see.
