Default Ok, I am going to take the plunge...

after I check out NC, but if it's not liberal, OR here I come. I'm really kinda nervous about it, even though I love the coast and know it well, and did spend time in Portland many years ago.

Question is...I have a small dog and cat. Are there many rentals (preferably detached dwellings) that cater to animals up there?

Thanks.

Congrats on almost deciding to move to Oregon. Let me say ahead of time welcome to Oregon.

Now do you know what city or area you'll be moving to? You'd probably need to look up ads in the newspaper or craigslist to find something to rent.

Thank you so much, that is very kind. I know the entire coast and love it, but I have to find gainful employment (for benefits). I lived in Portland very briefly long time ago, but didn't get a warm reception as I was an outsider. I really have never been to Eugene or Salem, but I would consider either. I think Bend gets too much snow and is cold. I guess my major concern would have to be employment and benefits.

I'm liberal and loved living in San Francisco, when I did (although I am not a native Californian). I also don't want to cut my long hair, and I am over 40. I don't see why I should have to, just to conform That tells you something about me and I look forward to at least finally getting some ertia to leave this place. (I know, I think ertia is a word I invented, but I feel inertia a lot of the time).

P.S. This is so scary, even though I've done it many times (relocated). I guess my next step is to find someone to look after my pets, book a flight, and just look around. WOW.

Im not from Oregon...yet..movin on but I am from SC and I can tell you...don't waste your time if you are hoping to find it a liberal place to live! My partner and I are getting ready to leave the Southeast for that very reason...way WAY to conservative for our taste. Good luck with your search in Or.

Thanks, I popped over to the NC forum and in less than five minutes knew it wasn't for me. At all. But I'm glad I got that info so fast. They are not liberal there and call people like me Yankees, so that's crossed off my list. I imagine SC could be even worse?

Do you know where you are headed?

Thai is on a distinguished road
Have a friend from high school days in the SF Bay Area who moved to a lake in North Carolina when his kids were small and he's loved it. They have sail and motor boats and live on land with a view of the lake. Much slower pace and some snow in winter, but good weather generally. He worked for Watchovia Bank in computers, but found the money goes a lot farther and there were fewer material expectations from kids being raised in NC. Never been there myself, though.
