Ice Cream
You don't have to have a degree in ice-creamology or be a ice-creamologist to enjoy Umpqua Dairy Ice Cream. The entire soft serve sold at Oregon Dairy Queens is many by Umpqua Dairy. It is hard to drive by a Dairy Queen in Oregon. Umpqua Dairy makes ice cream for Rockview Farms, which is sold in parts of Southern California including parts of San Diego.

Umqua can't hold a candle to Tillamook Ice Cream. That will be your real challenge.

Can't say that I remember eating Tillamook Ice Cream. Have you tried the vanilla soft serve at Multnomah Falls?

lol Deserter, youre not far off the mark. My husband worked for Umpqua Dairy up until a few weeks ago, and Im suddenly having to pay for all this ice cream. It is unbelievably delicious and theres so many different flavors, you can never go through them all cuz they are always coming out w/new ones. They even make sugar free/low fat/xtra creamy/frozen yogurts/icecream bars,sandwiches/etc. the list goes on and on. - warning, once youve tried it, youre gonna be addicted.

Tillamook ice cream is good. Very creamy. Yum!! We used to spend every weekend just out of Tillamook (Cape Lookout State Park) and went to the Cheese Factory at LEAST once a month. Still go there a couple times a year. Its one of my kids fav. places. - I will only buy Tillamook cheese and butter too. but Im still stickin by the Umpqua Ice Cream.
Oh, if youre ever in Bandon or Coos Bay, check out Cranberry Sweets. It was started by a local home ec teacher, and it is absolutly fabulous!! They have about every type of yummy candy you can think of. And just tons of free samples. Thats my kind of place! lol
I dearly love Oregons wild beaches. Wintertime is one of the best, when its isolated and feels like youre the only person onthe planet. The dungeness crab is delicious, and all the fruit and veggie stands are irresistable. IMO, few things in life smell as good as standing out in the middle of a live Christmas tree farm in a new snow. No candle can match that sent! Clear Lake up by Sisters is a rare and stunning place. You can rent rowboats and float over a petrified forest. Used to creep me out as a kid, seeing all those old trees so far below. Now, its just breathtaking. I remember as a kid, floating around in my little raft, fishing there and watching the Eagles and Ospry swoop down onto the lake and scoop up fish. wow. I love having the choice to go to a beach, or a mountain to ski, a whole slew of waterfalls or out into a desert, all within a couple hours or less and all in my own home state. To spend the day in urban sprall, or out where the silence is thick and heavy. We used to live out in a place where my husband could just dress up and walk out the front door to go hunting. And the most I ever worried is when he came home and told me to be sure to keep the kids and pets close to home for a bit cuz he had seen a bear within minutes of leaving the house. wow. Now, while my kids wait for a bus, they can hear the seals barking in the bay, we can pull on boots and catch a clam dinner w/o ever taking a drive. Fall is here, and theres so many different colors, its like someone spilled a crayon box. There is so much to love about Oregon. What an incredible state to live and love.

Nothing against Umpqua Dairy, but Eberhard's rules if you come east of the Cascades.
The weather in Oregon is just the best....if you don't like it where you're at, you can drive within an hour or two from most places and be back in the perfect temp, etc.

One of my all-time favorite things, specifically in Portland, is Saturday Market. Going down, roaming around and looking in all the booths, grabbing one or two of my must-have spring rolls with the dipping sauce that stays on my breath for a week and listening to the live jazz or blues music of the local musicians. That makes for a great day for me.

Oregonians must be the best...
I have been on the forum for a few weeks now. I am steady searching
on a new place for our family to live....I am from Kissimmee, Florida
and I just wanted to tell all of you...that the threads I have been reading
are so refreshing....You all have a genuine love for your state.. I have
never been to Oregon but am longing for the day that I can come and
check out the beauty of which all of you speak.....I just wanted to
say thank you for painting such a pretty picture in my mind.

Hi rcnkat. We all enjoy the natural scenery here in Oregon. It's not a place for everyone but those of us who choose to live here sure do like it. To me it seems like we've got just about everything from beaches to mountains. I'm already planning on a trip around the state in a few months and I live here. I just thought it would be enjoyable to see some more of the state. I'll probably wait until May or June so I don't hit snow anywhere.
Come on down for a visit and see if it's for you.

Bend vs. Hood River, Oregon
I am thinking of relocating to Bend or Hood River. For those of you who have lived or are living in either area what do you like and dislike? How many sunny or partly sunny days does each area get? Is it sunny or partly sunny in the winter? Is Mt. Hood Meadows as good for skiing/snowboarding as Mt. Bachelor or visa versa? Thank you for your input!
