Default How about Burns Oregon

Someone told us to check out Burns and see if we like it. Well, I haven't seen anything on here about that area.

Is there anyone who knows anything about Burns. Is it hot in the summer and freezing in the winters?

Is Burns close to any shopping/Hospitals/vets for retired people?

Anything good about it?

thanks

It's a small town in the middle of a desert plateau. Rather remote, in terms of Oregon towns. It does have all the basic services (hospital, store, schools, etc.), but that's about all it has.

The Malheur Refuge is a great place, as is the nearby (well, sort of nearby) Alvord Desert and Steens Mountain area. Burns is a small town, oriented toward ranching and farming, well off the main highways (I-5 and I-84).

Here is a link to the Ciy Data page, and you can get weather plus a bunch of other info:

Oh Boy, that is all I need is fires. We have our share. I guess what we are looking for is a place out from the city. Not to close to other people. Just because we have 9 dogs and want them to be safe.

We liked Lakeview when we went there but house prices are getting higher there I hear.

Thanks for the info

I lived in Burns for almost 10 years - great place to raise kids - remote but friendly - natural beauty but you have to be an out door sort of person. No malls but lots of open space.

Oh Lord, Not Burns. I grew up there. Not alot there, although I will have to say I have fond childhood memories of Burns. But as far as anything to do....well itty bitty town in the middle of nowhere. No malls a few stores but if you are looking for name brand things go to Bend or Ontario 130 miles either direction. Good outdoors activities but thats about it.

Burns and Burns Junction = Middle of Nowhere!
LOTS of starry night skies and coyotes howling
COLD in the winter.....hot in the summer
Shopping available at the nearest mall......Boise or Bend.....150 miles or so in either direction.
Need a plane to go shopping?

Default High Desert, Burns, OR.

Hi,
Burns Oregon is a wonderful place to retire or raise a family. Winters bring some snow and the summers average about 90 degrees. It is a community of about 7000 people, wonderful schools, new hospital and great staff. It is a high desert, sage brush and junipers area. However, within minutes you are in the forest! Hard to believe. Also you can see the Steens Moutain from town and it is spectacular. Our local merchants do a great job and offer some unique merchandise. We do not have a big mall, but really don't need one! Bend, Oregon is an easy 130 miles away, and if you desire a big city experience it is a nice drive. This small town is an awesome place to live, so much community support for the schools and business. A very friendly place!

And would like information on them and the area. Some of the names are Turley, Golden, Stewarts, Tucker, Cornwall, Gress, etc. So if you have any information please send or have them email me at [EMAILmod cut Thank you, Joe
