Family friendly
We lived in Cottage Grove a couple times. Last time we were in the country. It's a pretty decent place. I was tired of the rain and moved East a ways. But it is out of Eugene enough to avoid the pollution and it tends to get more snow in the winter. It's growing but still has a nice small town feel to it. I wouldn't vote against it for any reason when it comes to having a family there.

Cool small town, 9k people, lots of outdoor activity opportunities, the real estate is starting to get noticed and prices are climbing.
I think it will do well in the next 5 to 10 yrs.

Cottage Grove
Anyone care to put in their 2 cents worth on Cottage Grove? How would the weather compare to Roseburg? Nice place to live? Anything to do there?
If you didn't have to drive to a job every day, would it be a good alternative to Eugene? Is it as rainy as Eugene? More expensive than Roseburg?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have never lived there. I have been there a few times and I drove by just a couple of months ago. It is a typical small town in Oregon but it is growing. It's only about 20 miles to Eugene. They are building some new homes there. I saw them building new homes on both sides of the freeway.
Cottage grove would have more rain tha Roseburg. You 'd need to look up the homes for sale in order to compare prices. I have looked at both in the past but prices of homes are changing. One city will go up in price while another goes down.
Mostly I like Cottage Grove. It does seem to be getting closer to the Eugene/Springfield area all the time. You'd be able to find stores for your basic needs there in town. It's got some hills and trees.

The "lists" Im seeing say something like 42 - 46 inches of rain... that really doesnt seem too bad to me. I could be wrong I guess. How the heck do you really know what 42 inches of rain is until youve lived in it a year? I'm coming from the dry, parched, hot, desert in Idaho where they say we get 14 inches. I dont think we get 14 DROPS! I lived in N CA when I was a kid and I have always missed the rain... but I do realize that when I was a kid mud on the kitchen floor all the time wouldnt have bothered me. It might be a little different being the adult. Oh well... Im gonna find out!
