Is Oregon right for me?
I hoping some of those who live in Oregon could help me. I am looking to move after I finish school, which will be a couple of years. Me and my fiance want to move to an area with beautiful landscaping. As well as other things like good places for hiking and the ilk. I heard Oregon is excepting of alternative lifestyles, has Zen centers, healthier food options and beautiful pretty much year round. I know every state has rude and ignorant people and of course crime. I'm not looking for perfection. I just want to eventually have a family and raise them in a beautiful place surrounded by nature.
I also was looking up colleges and found that a lot of the courses I want to take (Asian Studies) can be found in a lot more colleges there then where I currently live. I grew up in a family that didn't make much money and we barely got by and I still have that problem, i'm not looking to find fortune just someplace nice to raise a family.
Now I did do some home work so i'm I do have some opinions of Oregon and they are all positive but I have never been there and want opinions from people who live there now. I would appreciate it very much, thanks.

I was also wondering what is the majority of the populations ethnicity I heard a lot of people speak spanish, is that the most spoken language there other than English? Also what kind of faith is down there? Is it mainly a Christian state?

Yes, Spanish is the standard second language in Oregon. Migrant field workers have been coming to Oregon for decades, and some of them have stayed.
Oregon has churches in all but the smallest communities, but churches are not a center of life like they are in the South. Only about 1/3 of Oregonians are members of any church, and a good percentage of those only go to church for weddings and funerals.

I live in a relatively rural area, and few of us around here attend church. Oregon's 'Bible Belt' is located out in the east.

I also am looking to move to Oregon. I have little kids. I like the small town appeal and just want to make life more simple. I do like cooler climates and rain- although not all the time- appeals to me and coastal weather is great. I want a medium income area. traffic doesn't appeal to me but being close to shopping for essentials in arts and groceries is. I would like a college town and I do like mountains and rivers. I love the coastal areas. Any ideas? I want a small population like under 10,000 and I love historic buildings and the small town appeal that I am just not getting much in Los Angeles. I know this is broad but I think there is something out there for me and my fam. Oh ya, my husband works at a top notch art college as a managing editor and has an interest staying in the art school or school environment. We can't come without a job so somewhere near a town that has work. HELP! Thanks for any...

No, its also in the south near Medford - it's the buckle.
The east is the edge of the belt where the love handles are located

I also like rain, and not that much a fan of bright sunny days, I burn easily. Fog is beautiful and "mysterious" lol. What is the weather like in Oregon? So far the things i've been reading about Oregon from research and other posts I like it alot, especially Eugene, anyone know and detailed info about that place? Like schools, businesses, weather and so on?

I didn't know that.
Do you have any evidence that Oregon's east is a Bible belt? Can you point me to some information that verifies this, or are you just guessing?
