Guess it depends on what kind of shopping you want. Albany has the target, sears, kmart, kohls... walmart soon i guess.
For small ma & pop places... well, the downtown is charming, but empty at any given time of day.
Lots of thift shops though - they're usually busy.
Several antique shops.
Some decent food (house of noodles is a favorite), but lots more chain food. Sitting outside of taco bell is usually a fun time - listening to the meth heads scream at the air.

I only lived there three months (still hang out there every so often for work), and within that time, a woman down the street was arrested for drug trafficking / child endangerment, a neighbor was arrested for being a felon with assault rifles, someone intentionally (supposedly) burned down a bar... so crime is probably about the same as its always been. Not that Albany is super crime ridden, I think its actually pretty low, just lots of drug related crime, bored kids, etc. Small town stuff.

The atmosphere of Albany vs Corvallis vs Eugene is not at all similar. One drive quick 15 minute drive-through of each town and you'll see.

Zombiestare, Now that is worth quoting "The atmosphere of Albany vs Corvallis vs Eugene is not at all similar."

Huski, I am not at all sure what you were trying to say. I am going to give you the benifit of the doubt and assume you are challanged in some way, or have limited education.

Albany has a much lower crime rate than many Oregon cities, and less meth use than most coastal cities.

Default Stinky Albany

I haven't been there in over 20 years but is it still stinky from the paper mill?

I don't think what you smelled was a paper mill. It may have been a metallurgical plant, Wah Chang. The first smells like sulphur, the other .. well if you have pets you know.

The other smelled like sauerkraut, but has been closed for years and is being dismantled.
