The strikelist - which 5 towns would you AVOID in Oregon?
Be honest - I think we all have at least a few towns in this state that we just don't like. If someone moving to the state asked you which five cities or towns to avoid, what would be your answer?
I'll start with Sweet Home. Sweet Home has a rather bad drug problem, and as any social services worker from that area can tell you, it has a lot of messed-up people. Not to insult anyone here FROM Sweet Home; I'm sure YOU'RE quite normal...

Everyone has different ideas about what kind of place they'd like to live in. It's just not the same for everyone. I think Sweet Home will improve as time goes on.
The cities I like least are those east of Hood River and Bend. It seems to me they lack culture. I don't care for the weather either as they get hot and cold a lot.
I like western Oregon the best.

In my opinion, the whole state of Oregon lacks culture.
I can't really list 5 towns since I've only actually lived in 2. From my own experience, Klamath Falls. It's too isolated, backwards, too rural, lots of weird people, ugly, roads suck because they don't know or don't have any workers with enough experience to build or fix them. One intersection constantly has lanes closed. You can tell that they messed up and are trying to cover it up by doing something with it, can't tell what they're trying to do. You can tell which drivers are native to Klamath because they can't merge, can't change lanes, can't keep up with the flow of traffic... it's irritating. I even talked with an ex-cop here who said most (local) drivers here can't drive. No culture, no nightlife, no jobs unless you work in healthcare.

I can think of a few, but won't mention them in case is makes someone feel bad.
One exception - I'll mention Astoria.
It means something when a city will keep a mayor who was recently busted for what I think is his third drunk driving offence.

Hood River has no more culture than the rest of Eastern Oregon. Board heads DO NOT equal culture! BTW: Most people in Eastern Oregon are friendlier than those is Western Oregon (from my experience anyway).
I can not think of 5 cities that I would avoid in Oregon. Every city I have been to (I have by no means been to all of them) has had its positives and negatives. That's the great thing about Oregon, most people can find a place they like whether it is on the coast, close to the mountains, in the eastern desert, southern oregon, etc.

Personally, I wouldn't live in any city. I lived in town briefly in the '70s, and couldn't wait to get out of there.

I'm new to Oregon, but I would never move to Grants Pass! We stopped there for dinner after a rafting trip and I witnessed racism and a beating within a minute of leaving the restaurant. My brother-in-law, who has traveled through Grants Pass several times, says it always seems to be this way.

In Search of Truth
I can't see that this thread serves a useful purpose except to concentrate negativity in a particularly intense and hurtful way. God, if this were to really get rolling how many other cities would get written off. Someone has already written off the whole state. Hmmmm.

I'm tempted to list the cities I would avoid, but I agree with Leisesturm... This thread can only lead to bad juju.
I will say in response to delta07 and possibly other posters... One shouldn't eat dinner in a place and judge a whole community based on a single negative occurrence. And each person has their different standards for judgment for different places. One person's trash is another's treasure.
Don't be hurtful and tear down someone's paradise.
