Local Movers in the Columbia Gorge (Hood River to The Dalles) Area (Portland: rent)

Is it just me or are there almost no moving companies in Hood River or The Dalles? From what I see there is only one moving company in Hood River and one in The Dalles. The moving company in The Dalles doesn't even answer their phone or return phone calls. Does anyone know any good moving services that can do local moves in Hood River or The Dalles area?

I will be moving from Beaverton to Hood River and I am trying to save as much money as possible. It seems if I hire movers in Portland to do the move, they will charge me for both going to and back from Hood River, which would be probably at least $300 alone. I'm hoping I can do this move well below $1000 and was considering doing a lot of it myself. However, if I could find movers in Hood River area to unload me, it would save me a lot of money, rather than having to pay for movers to do the full trip.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Rent a truck and move your stuff yourself. It's not that far. Hire help to load and unload your stuff if necessary.

I did use a local mover when we lived in Hood River, but I can't for the life of me remember the name. I believe they were located in O'dell, Dee or Parkdale. It was a flat rate for 2 guys and the truck, maybe $70-$80 per hour. If you do drive a truck yourself and just need some guys to unload it maybe post an ad at Dog River or Rosauer's.
