Thinking of Moving from WI to Medford Oregon Area

It is sad about the loss of ONC (timber related) funds for Southern Oregon Communities, but having lived many years down there and still have family in Ashland and Roseburg. I can attest there are some great areas, people and lifestyles, just as there are some bad. You got to look around. Medford is not that bad (but hot in the summer). Ashland is great, but very expensive to live (ask my sister). Rural nearby towns like Jacksonville, Cave Junction, Wolf Creek and others offer small town living, lack of crowds and affordable living in general. And the Southern Oregon Coast is great and less crowded than Northern OR coast towns.

the only ones geting rich n jackson county are the sherrif police and court houses n the attornys that rip off the poor there buildings are being remodiled or new cop cars new boats bigger fines or free labor like the sheriffs road grews its big bussness city hall is being redone again jackson grade school is still waiting north hs the librarythe city cronys are at work they hire there friends or familys teach them the trade like the 40 thieves so dont come here no money no job and you will be harrased by the local police and you will be giving your hard earned pay to support them no one watches them they answer to no one they have been a way of life here for to long the food in the jail is to rotten to eat the deputys order out because its so bad and alot people are not gilty of a crime but are made to be or they want to get even with the lying badge holders on the take or bribes or in back room court house deals between laywers that give up there clinentsso they can make a deal later on

yes dont come here its like bush give up money to his rich banker friends that have lear jets the nicest places to work are in the crime or fine bussness fines the poor cant pay they get money from the fed or state i need anew desk my 3 yearold ones not up to date the cop car im driving doesnt shine any morewell u better get out there n bust some poor person so we can pay for it the attornyes should be named do we fleesem n how its all there to make them money we are only there to take it in the shorts my fellow citizsons sorry acant spell there was no money to teach me or see to it my dad payed child support he got away by those judges in jackson county n the medford police if the policerecords where made avalble to you the people n not just the ones that hide the truth or just plain lie to keep them in power ripping you off ask of much money do they rack in ???where does it go my grandma asked in the paper but the paper is on the side that keeps them in the chips now thats reporting the truth???

i must say there is one judge that seems to do his job and is trying to be fair he hear s the cases at city hall hes now in the old library if any one needs a new court room its him but how can u be fair if u are n the same building as the ones who are trying to get you just because they whereing the badge say so thats a lot one sided dont you agree where all liers they kill there wives take bribes they stick together even if they know its not the truth

now you must think i dont like cops well i dont like bad ones my father n mother n law where both cops good ones they where most fair the mom didnt like me for many years but then she said that im not abad guy after all ive been married to her daughter 33 years now shes gone now i do miss her she was a great mom she raised 4 fine kids and put up with me my father n law was the best made my lieing cheeting womemizer dad was the worst any child could have he beat me kicked me tryed to get his buddys the medford police to kill me n my best friend luckey his dad told them off n my dad you dont mess with uncle buck hes a true n honest manhe all most adoped me n my sister to bad he didnt my life would be diffrent but the ones that where suppose to protect us didnt shame on them and there still not proteting us

You neglected to tell us much about yourself, so it's difficult to really know if Medford is a good fit for you.
The negative things that have been posted are true, if somewhat hyperbolic. Medford, like most towns (small cities) of at least 60,000 has all those problems.
We also have a vibrant art and performance community, excellent health care services, some fine eateries, and all professional services one requires.
We moved here from California 15 years ago, and we did not know anyone when we arrived. We have formed great friendships and people here are most likely the same as where you now live. Some here are ignorant and choose to remain so. Others (many) are well educated and good citizens in every sense of that word. Between those groups are good hard working responsible people, and a few scumbags as you noted.
About the libraries: True, they are open only part time. We are embarrassed beyond belief. Not enough room to explain it, but we hope to get back to full time service sooner than later.
I love the weather. We have four seasons. In the winter we see snow on the ridges around the valley, but don't have to shovel snow. The summers are HOT! But, the humidity is not high. Relief from the heat is close: To the beaches or to the mountains. Spring and fall are wonderful!
A caveat: If you are without skills, this will not be your 1st choice. Professional and trade people are well paid. Semi skilled are not. Those without skills will find life hard.
Sorry your weekend here was not good. We don't lock up at 9:30PM, but we don't have a central "strip"so you have to know where to go to party. Then, Party on!
May I remind you too, that where ever you go you will take yourself with you. If you come here with a positive attitude, and your needs are within the norm, you may find, as we have, a wonderful place to live.
(A couple of examples: I ride a Harley and there are MILES of good paved roads in this area. I read: I buy the New York Times, or other national newspapers several times a week. (also read on line, but just not the same). I enjoy theater and we have lots of community theater as well as the Ashland Shakespeare theaters that are nationally known. (They also do contemporary plays). Coffee is soul food here, and we have many coffee cafes that ALL have free internet (try that in St. Paul).
I hope this gives you another view of Medford. I'm not trying to "sell" you, but I did want to rebut some of what I thought was unfair slandering.
