Is it difficult to get good service in Oregon
We are in Hawaii and service is BAD.
Everyone here on the Oregon Forum have been very friendly and helpful.
So Maybe you can help rank service (stores, labor etc.) in Oregon for us.
Thanks

I've lived in Oregon for the last two years, and I'd say the service here isn't the greatest. I know that is a very general and sweeping statement, but it definitely has some truth. That isn't to say that the people are not friendly. It's more like they just don't really want to work for their money. A lot of people in service jobs move slower than molasses and have an attitude like somebody owes them something. It's like they all belong to a *cough*union*cough* .
Overall I would say the service in Oregon is better than Hawaii's, but Hawaii has an even slower pace of life. There are just a lot of unmotivated people in Oregon.

About 9 years ago, we went to Savannah, GA, for about 8 months. Oregon's service is light years ahead of Savannah.
Good service is easy to find near Portland and suburbs. Note, I didn't say that every place has good service, but its "easy" to find.
Not sure about Eugene or Salem, since I didn't spend too much time in those areas.
Bend, while visiting, has been nice.

Depends on what you mean by "service" - there are many restaurants around here, for instance, where you will be served by someone who actually wants to work in the field and takes pride in it - who knows the menu and the wine list well. Then there are the usual chain restaurants where the waiter or waitress is there because it's the job they found when they were looking, not necessarily the job they wanted.
That's not Portland-specific, though, by any means. In general, Portland is a little "slower paced" than larger cities and I've had friends (from New York or LA) confuse bad service with slower service. Odds are the cashier at the grocery stores knows you or recognizes you and might take a second to chat.

I've lived here forever, I'd have to agree with you. It's getting progressively worse. It's like people have no pride, a distinct lack of pride.
