Terrebonne is a pretty small town next door to Redmond not a bad area IMHO
housing is a bit spendy right now. Many folks have relocated from larger urban areas over the past few years and have driven prices up beyond what locals can afford to pay due to low wages in the area. You may want to think about renting for awhile to make sure you will be a good fit to the area.

There are plenty of churchs in the area most are listed in the yellow pages.
I hear that the schools are pretty good (no experience on my part)

Be prepared for icy roads during winter 4x4 or studded tires required
not a lot of snow in winter but the roads will freeze overnite due to low temps.

If you like outdoor activities this is a nice place to live. Smith Rock SP is great for hiking and rock climbing

The Sun Spot is a good diner in town most locals go there to eat.

Grocerys will be cheaper in Redmond due to more stores.

Over all I like the area.

Default Terrebonne

My husband and I have lived in Terrebonne for the last 3 1/2 years, and both grew up in neighboring Redmond (about 5 miles south).

Terrebonne is not a bad area. It has grown enormously (just like Redmond and Bend) in the last ten years or so. I speak for most natives when I say that I miss when the area was smaller and did have a "slower pace" of life.

There is one community school in Terrebonne, kindergarten through 8th grade. The school is not too bad (I actually went through from kindergarten through 5th grade, before it came a community school with 6th through 8th). The teachers are good and it has an excellent physical education program with an emphasis on outdoor activities like rock climbing and a "high ropes" course. Students and their parents can opt to stay at Terrebonne school for 6th through 8th grade, or transfer to one of the two middle schools in Redmond. The middle schools, from what I have heard, are decent. The high school in Redmond is horribly overcrowded with a very high student to teacher ratio. There were four or five bomb threats in the first three months of school in 2007 (none of them turned out to be more than kids playing a "joke"). There is, and has been, a pretty prevalent drug problem in the school since I attended there over 5 years ago. Apparently a new high school will be built in the next few years to alleviate crowding.

The sports programs are good at Redmond High. When I schooled there, they had a high turn-over rate for coaches. But, the school takes the sports very seriously and so do the students.

There are a handful of churches in Terrebonne and Crooked River Ranch -- all types, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding one that "fits." There are also a slew of churches in Redmond. Some people from Terrebonne and Redmond even travel to Bend if they are looking for bigger churches.

Jobs in Central Oregon are not abundant. Good paying jobs are hard to find.

The area is beautiful, if you haven't been here. Our family enjoys Smith Rock frequently. Central Oregon really is a great area to live in terms of outdoor activities ... with forest, rivers, desert, mountains ... so close.

We are currently looking to get out of the area, mostly because of the huge and increasing drug problem and increase in violent crime (which local law enforcement insist is just due to the rapid growth). If you are coming from a bigger city and are "used to" this type of thing, I am sure you will really enjoy the area. We are constantly saying "remember when ..." because we can't help but miss the way Terrebonne/Redmond used to be, before so many people started moving here.

If you have children in high school you should look into the Redmond High school before moving. They are in need of a second one and really overcrowded!
