Hi!

Just wondering how the coastal scenery in Brookings compares to Northern California coastal scenery? (Eureka/Trinidad area)
We're going to be doing a Northern Ca. coastal and Redwoods road trip and was wondering if going as far as Brookings would be a good idea?
The pictures I've seen online sure are cool!
Thanks!

Outside of Big Sur, the most outstanding coastal scenery on the West Coast is probably the Boardman corridor which runs from Pistol River to the northern end of Brookings. But to really enjoy it, you have to get out of the car and do some hiking on the Oregon Coast Trail.

So if you're going to start from the south, you need to drive past Brookings and up to a point about 20 miles north of town to see the high points. Between Trinidad and Brookings there isn't all that much, so you'll have to decide how much time you want to spend in the car watching the scenery whizzing by vs. how much time you want to spend having fun. Where are you starting your trip from?

Y'all might enjoy a Jetboat ride or Raft daytrip on the Rogue River, from Gold Beach.

or from Grants Pass.

Brookings is adorable. Some kick-ass clean beaches, beautiful views, and only 20-ish minutes from the Redwoods (do the Stout Grove trail!). There are a lot of places to park and wander around directly north of Brookings if you're into the scenery.

What Brenda said.
If you fish, you will love the Smith River in NorCal. You'll sort of be between steelhead and salmon season, but just the water itself is delightful.

You will do good if you even go past Brookings to Gold Beach.

And +1 on the Jet Boat up the Rogue River.

Actually, the first 45 minutes up the Smith River on 199 east of Jed Smith redwoods is a favorite drive for me.
