I understand your point. In this situation, I don't think anyone would want to pay 0 taxes to OR, but it should just be less than someone who lives there.

I assume the OP means the state income tax.

The income tax is applied to all income-earners in Oregon partly for constitutional reasons - if a tax is going to be charged at all, it has to be charged to all.

The state can't really discriminate on the basis of state residency, or even national residency. Oregon, Washington, Idaho, China... if you earn income in Oregon, you get hit equally by the income tax.

I was under the impression that there was a tax refund for Washington Residents working in Oregon. Is this not the case?

Get a job in Washington and you won't have to pay Oregon income taxes.

It is not the case. Unfortunately Clark County gets the short end economically as a result.

Does a change of address to Washington and notifiying your employer of such not change you from being held by Oregon state income tax

Oregon income taxes are very, very high. Even worse than California.

Seems like it's a good situation if you are retired, on welfare, or making money under the table.

But for a regular working person it looks pretty rough.

I think you all should put in a sales tax of about 4% and then cut the income tax in half. That's just my opinion though.

The advantage we have in WA is that even with 10% sales tax we can choose whether to buy or not, and have options such as internet shopping with no tax (for now). Income tax hits everyone that works.

No, if you live in another state and work in Oregon, or live in Oregon and work in another state, you have to pay Oregon income tax.

Do you use state services?
Should you pay for them?
