Although I'm a native born Oregonian, we moved to Vancouver about 5 years ago to escapre represeive taxation in my beloved home state.

However, one thing that has struck me as odd is that as one who continues to work in Oregon, I pay both Oregon taxes and the Washington sales tax. I would mind paying maybe a small bit of oregon tax, but to pay full taxes to a state that I use virtually no resources in seems unconstitutional when a full tax paying citizen of another state. Now, that said, like most bad people, I buy 90% of my goods in Oregon to avoid sales tax and I would galdly be willing to pay it in Oregon in lieu of the Oregon income tax.

Oh well, just a rant.

Maybe you Washingtonians should create some jobs... then you wouldn't have to rely on Oregon.
Your taxes help maintain the roads, fire and police protection you enjoy working safely in Oregon.

Most if not all states with income taxes charge it to people regardless of where they live. Professional athletes are taxed on the salaries for the days that they are in town as visiting team in whatever state they happen to be in. Smiled is right that you do have an impact on the
services in Oregon when you work there. If you found a job in Vancouver you could still go shop in Oregon and avoid both the WA sales tax and OR income tax.

I remember my father complaining bitterly about the tax situation for the 3 or 4 years we lived in northern NJ and he worked in NYC. Very common issue.

Oh I researched it fine. But I'm giving free money to Oregon with a zero return. It just seems wrong.

Default Taxes

Zero return? Next time you drive our roads, don't get robbed, enjoy a safe building (structurally sound), have less traffic to deal with due to mass transit, need an emt or fireman, drink clean water and etc, you'll begin to understand you're getting a fine return on your investment.

No sympathy from me. Washingtonians take advantage of their state tax structure by shopping in Oregon.

Nothing in return?? Are you serious??

Oregon provides you with your income. I repeat: Oregon provides you with your income.

The company you work for would not have located in Oregon if, for some reason, it were a complete wasteland.

But, because it has roads, bridges, parks, schools, museums, law and order, services too numerous to mention.............etc., etc., your company decided to locate in Oregon.

All this stuff Oregon provides cost lots of money. That’s why people have to pay taxes.

That’s why you have to pay taxes if you income comes from Oregon.
