Cool Bend

Aloha from hawaii..

My family and I are looking to move to oregon.. a really random decision.. anywho we are hoping to move to bend.. as my boyfriend has a career in construction and would like to continue it over there.. i have heard that there is lots of consruction over there is this true? and what do they do in the winter..? are they able to work still..?

Second he is a Fillipino/Caucasion mix as is my son.. over here in hawaii people dont look at you twice if you have brown skin.. i am a little sceptical of moving to smaller towns because i have heard that most of the population is 90% caucasian.. and defiantly do not want my son to be discriminated against.. we are from a more country island and would not like to live in a total city.. please help.. any info on different cities or places in oregon.. we dont want to live in a rainy place and would like to experiance snow.. but since we are from hawaii we are kind of wusses and dont want a hurendous winter.. hehe

-Ms.Picky from Hawaii..

I only say this because Im so envious of your current location... STAY THERE!

If you must leave your beautiful Island...
I've stayed in Bend many times. It's OK...I am moving to Oregon and Bend wont be the palce I go to, but you and I are looking for very different things. I want AWAY form growth and your son needs it to pay the bills. I think Bend is starting to really have a reputation for being snobby (correct me if Im wrong Bend people) so you may want to seriously check into that.

True, Bend has a very high percentage of Caucasians. However, I know two Filipino families and a guy of Japanese ethnicity who live in Bend and they never have said they or their children have had any problems.

The 2000 census figures show that there are is a 1% Asian population there and that isn't too bad for a town that small. I'm sure it's even more today.

Bend can get cold in the winter, though. Be sure you have appropriate clothing for your family.

Good luck!

Construction is sharply down in Bend this year, though. Check the local paper (The Bend Bulletin, which is unfortunately one of those papers that makes you pay to subscribe to see back stories).
