Brookings, Eugene, Medford, Oregon? (Portland, Salem: sale, universities, organic)

I have been researching Oregon lately as a place to relocate for a healthier place to live. We live in Socal and I grew up in San Diego. I relocated to Temecula after I married my husband and it was great for the first few years but now because of the tremendous building here the crowds and traffic is out of control. We are researching Oregon. Eugene in particular and friends who live in Bend recommended we look into Brookings. Any comments on what to expect in Brookings? Eugene? Medford? I am tired of the me first mentality here and the crowds and the heat and the traffic? I do like the energy and convenience of being close to a city. I prefer to have access to culture, museums, nice safe places to walk. I would prefer to have access to wholesome food ie a Trader Joe's would be a plus.
Any information would be helpful.

Hello!

We are relocating to Eugene from SoCal (Orange County)....if we ever sell our house, that is. I've lived in SoCal all my life (38 short years).

I'm sure others will have more to share (you can also search the forum on each city -- that's what I did).

I just wanted to comment because all of the things you are looking for (especially the TJs) is what had us choose Eugene.

We're going back for another visit this weekend -- and to the Scandaavian Fest in Junction City.

From everything you said, Eugene sounds like a fit. They have a Trader Joes.
Brookings has nothing on your list, except nice places to walk.

It is a nice getaway, but not the best place to live if you want museums, culture? not sure what kind of Culture you mean.
There are nice places to walk anywhere in Oregon.

The Rogue Valley - Grants Pass to Ashland may have what you are looking for as well.

Hi! I am from temecula also!! I have been researching alot on Oregon and I grew up in the Northwest. Eugene seems perfect to me! We are trying to relocate there also. If I never see another housing community I will be great. I would like to relocate because I have 4 kids and when its time for them to move out, it will be tooo expensive here. You cannot be young and poor here without living with your mom!LOL.......Good luck to you.

Almost anytime someone mentions culture and museums, they may as well be looking toward a big city.

Figure 80,000 population and above.

Unless you mean remote access like a hour or less travel.

I live in Medford and there are lots of great places to hike/ walk all around here!!! We also have nice climate and as far as culture goes...we have hispanic culture and VA Dom right here in White City (about 10 minutes from Medford). We do not have Trader Joes, but we have several Whole Foods stores that sale organic products. It's actually pretty diverse here. Ashland is about 15 minutes South of Medford and it's a very liberal area with lots of organic/natural/free of ? products.

I can't believe all of you are looking into Eugene! It's kind of surprising. Maybe it has changed a lot since I lived near there.

For my two cents, I prefer Corvallis, Salem, or some of the Portland suburbs (Lake Oswego, Hillsboro, Forest Grove, etc.).

Eugene is just... kind of known for being... different. I'll let you make up your own mind when you visit! I'm sure the vast majority of it is lovely if you avoid the downtown area which is kind of... colorful.



As far as culture, both Eugene and Corvallis have good sized universities which always helps.
