If you want really small (less than a dozen people), check out the town of Troy in NE corner of Oregon between the Umatilla and Wallowa National Forests and on the east edge of the Wenaha-Tucannon wilderness. It's in the middle of the blue mountains (so named because of the pine tree oil that leaves blue tinge in the air), beautiful area.
