Hi everyone, My husband and I will be getting out of the military soon and I have had my eye on Oregon for a very long time.
We will be starting a family in a few years so good schools are a must, and we love out door activities for example fishing, hiking, biking and we have pets that need constant walking so pet friendly would be a must.
I will be graduating with a criminal justice degree and my husband witha finance degree, will we have a difficult time finding good paying jobs?

Is there anywhere in Oregon that is breathtaking close to a major city and not out in the middle of no where. I would prefer Northern Oregon since im excited about the rain. I picture in my mind Mountains, rivers, snow, forests, and mild summers and great Shopping!!
We live in Savannah Ga right now, and I grew up in TX so it is definitely time for a change and the west coast is calling my name!!

Hit up a 30 mile radius of Portland, that'll handle whatever you're looking for.

Yes. In these fields you will have difficutly finding any paying jobs. But start applying in Portland. That will be your best chance due to the fact that there are more businesses there although there is also much more strong competition.

I would throw my two cents in for Bend. Real estate prices are rock-bottom and will never be this affordable again. Scenery, lakes, mountains and hiking that is world-class. Go downtown and every other person has a dog (on a leash) and a Subaru. The people are always doing something and there is always something to do in Bend.

Find EMPLOYMENT FIRST, don't dwell on real estate prices. All the cheap real estate in the world won't help you a bit if you don't have a job.

Our 'major cities' aren't 'major', I assume you want to be near a community large enough to support a Costco and Trader Joe's. If you travel by air much you would want to live convenient to PDX. Redmond (near Bend) and Medford both have OK air service to Seattle, San Francisco. In between, not much.

Use the military outplacement service, there are employers who work with them when they have openings. If you ever consider a position with a Federal agency in Oregon PM me, I know a couple to avoid.
