Thanks for the advice everyone, I guess I am going to have to try and figure something out. I don't want to go down there without some kind of plan and I honestly want to stay with her. I guess I can only hope that I can land a great job or get some major experience while I am here. I honestly hate the idea of a long commute but if necessary I may have to get a job outside of medford and make the drive everyday.

Perhaps look for a photo job at a tv station.

Medford is somewhat tiny and backward, but it is full of Southern Californians - unfortunately not the Hollywood type, more like the ex-aerospace type. To really have a career... look to Southern California. To build your own small business... you would really have to hustle. If you have to find a job, you'll be more likely to find it in IT, and you won't make much - how does $10-15 an hour sound? Compare that to rentals on Craigslist and see how far it goes. Taxes are much lower here, so that will help.

Best of luck to you!

Are there alot of bank teller positions cause the other thing I was considering was getting a bank teller job or retail job so that I will have experience and do photography as a freelance. The only issue is I was told there aren't that many retail jobs and they pay low.

You might pass this advice on to your girlfriend, because it applies to her too. When McDonalds did the hiring spree a few months back, there were over 500 applicants for a job nuking burgers. Of course, if she has credentials in a high demand growth industry like medicine or funerals, she will probably find a job fairly easily.
Girlfriend popped in. My work is all online and I do it all based out of my home so location has never been a problem for me.

That being said, it's a given to never move without a solid job offer. Anyone I know back home with a job got it through knowing people, and the jobs are not the glamorous ones that are in NYC.

This is completely true in Oregon times 100. There are so many people and so few jobs, employers are constantly inundated with applications. It's just easier for them to hire people recommended by present employees who can give a good and knowledgeable reference.

There are some exceptions to this. If someone is in a high-demand job they probably don't need to network and seasonal jobs are usually had just by applying.

I understand Macy's is taking applications now in all it's stores in Oregon for the Christmas season. Also ACS but they have kind of a bad reputation as an employer. Wal-Mart and Fred Meyers both have high turn-overs and always seem to be hiring.
