Simnasho, Oregon? Any info?
My husband is going to put in for a job in Simnasho, Oregon and we know nothing about the area. Not that he will necessarily get the job, but I am curious. What is the weather like, schools, does it get much snow, shopping, crime etc.? Any info appreciated.

It seems to be a post office in the Warm Springs Indian reservation.

Hi brokencrayola,
You accessed me through flickr. Simnasho is on an Indian Reservation in Oregon. I taught near there in a local elementary school for 21 years. I know the area well. Simnasho is in a remote area. It really has no town, for that you would have to travel many miles. It only has a small general store and gas station. There is a longhouse for cultural forums. If you are not a tribal member you will have a very difficult time adjusting I think. There are no schools. For that your children would be transported about 20 miles to the nearest local elementary school where I once taught by school bus. Simansho is at about the 3,000 foot elevation on the east side of Mt. Hood. It gets snow in the winter, sometimes not much and other times like this winter a lot! There is no shopping, for there are no stores. You would have to travel about 36 miles to Madras for shopping (pop about 6,000 or to The Dalles 50 miles (population 13,000) There is the crime of rural, isolated desperation. Alcohol and drugs are there big time. I would not recommend working here unless you are desiring a very challenging job and enjoy very isolated places. I liked that kind of thing. It is definitely not for everyone!!

So it is not the reservation that is near Crater Lake? Because we ended up on that reservation once (on the way to Crater Lake from Washington state I think) with a Vehicle that broke down and three kids and the locals were extremely accommodating and nice to us They did not charge us for anything and gave us a lot of help, we were very grateful.
The stupid thing broke down again at the campground in Crater Lake and it was a 45 mile plus tow and I had to pack up out tent, camp, etc with the kids in pouring down rain and then sit and wait for them to return for us. Memorable.
