Unlikely, but not impossible either. Usually wolves kill coyotes and domestic dogs on sight. However, young lone males unable to find a mate have bred with coyotes and dogs on rare occasions. The Eastern Wolf, Canis Lycaon, smaller than our western Gray Wolf, Canis Lupus, have interbred with eastern coyotes, producing a larger coywolf hybrid. As of Feb 10, OR-7 was still in California in NW Lassen County. There is a thread on the California forum about OR-7 that was very active up until Jan. 21, the last post.

From the voice article - So far hunters in Idaho have killed 290 wolves this season. Why? Were they caught killing livestock or is it because the hunters are providing food for their family? This guy was hunting coyote (didn't know they were good eating either) and lucked out on a wolf.
I don't think my next burger is worth that wolfs' life, I pity the young of today, I think they will have bleak future with the only wildlife left in zoos.

People who want to reintroduce predators should do it in their own neighborhoods. ODFW should trap bears and release them in Portland and Salem neighborhoods to see how people like that.

Personally I'd be all for that, but I'd feel a little bad for the bears to be dropped in an urban environment.

But the idea of bears emerging from their dens on Mt. Tabor to chase weekend tourists and hippie kids down Hawthorne is an intriguing one...

Hey Larry - have you read about the things that were happening to our environment when the wolves were gone so long from it? The predators are all part of the whole cycle. They are important, even if they can also be dangerous. Heck - we are predators, and we are dangerous! The trick is finding ways for wildlife and human cohabitation.

There are some really great films you can watch on Netflix Instant streaming and also on PBS where you can hear both sides of the story and learn more about the topic, and about what's being done to face the challenge.

We lived in California for a bit and always got a kick out of the bears around Tahoe that would steal people's pizza and beer right out of their cars... one bear actually managed to somehow put a red convertible in drive and drive down the street!
