Default Oregon Weather by Zones

One of the best guides for weather in Oregon is the Sunset Western Garden book. The descriptions of the various zones are just excellent!

Between Brookings and Gold Beach there is a patch of zone 17 otherwise the entire coast is in zone 5. The garden spot of Oregon is zone 7 along the Rogue River from Ashland to Myrtle Creek, which takes in Medford and Grants Pass. Zone 6 runs from Roseburg right up the 5 to Longview, Washington. Zone 1 is on the other side of the Cascades. There is a zone 2 around Baker and a small patch of zone 3 at Arlington and Ontario.

Just to give you a flavor, Sunset says Zone 7 "encompasses several thousand square miles in the regions west of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade ranges. Hot summers and mild but pronounced winters give this area sharply defined seasons without severe winter cold or enervating humidity. Peony, iris, lilac, pears, apples, peaches, and cherries do well."

yes! i think many peole, including myself, need this sort of information- Oregon isn't a one-climate state!

however, this issue was also covered by another poster a month or so ago, who went into some detail about it. i think you are both talking about the same things...
