I wish there was something we could do, but I really don't see a solution.
Hey Des,

I agree with you on this. I couldnt've written it any better than you did. Like you mentioned in the other thread, politics in Cali depends on the uninformed. Lets say if you or I end up in Oregon, we make it a better place. I don't know how you feel but it breaks my heart how Cali has fallen. What I see now is nothing what I remember growing up.

Absolutely. That's exactly how I feel as well. It's so sad... I think the people who are leaving California for the RIGHT reasons are the majority of the people on this board who research the social scenes, weather, schools etc. The ones who ***** up Oregon are the ones who just go straight up there for the cheap prices and never really want to acclimate to the culture. I wish so many Californians weren't making a bad name for us. I've always wanted to move to Oregon though. Only recently has that financially become a possibility so I am excited about the prospect!

I have just read all the posts on this thread. I really am surprised at all the hate there is towards other races. I will agree that there is a huge problem with the large influx of people from Mexico that are moving in to Cal. Call me any name you care, because I don't give a ****. I also agree with many of you that if you live in the USA, learn to speak our language. Yes I was chased down the freeway by a group of Hispanic gang members. It is a scary experience. It's up to the police to catch the low life Mexicans who don't even flinch when it comes to pulling the trigger. BUT, it is not ALL the Mexicans that act like that. A small percentage gives everyone a bad name. What I don't know, excuse my ignorance, is why do Mexicans want to come to America? What is wrong with their own country? I hear that it is a poor country but why? If it is the political people that have totally screwed up Mexico, doesn't the population have the power to oust their political powers? I am new to this forum and it makes me sick to hear all my fellow Americans throw stones at each other. If you don't like your neighbors, move. Problem solved. There are things we can do to protect ourselves from the scum in this country no matter what the race. Carry pepper spray. I never leave my condo without personal protection. Pepper spray, well made defensive products of all kinds. Knives, cell phones; shop the web for personal defense items. Just keep it legal. The drug problem in this country is rampant. It's in all the states. Protect yourself. The Police can't do it all. I'm getting off the subject here. Sorry. It just tickles me that when we all cross a line on the map,CAL to OR, we think we are moving to another planet or something. Anyway, let's all stop screaming at each other and use this forum for what it was designed for. Nice people helping other nice people trying to relocate to a new place to call home. I want to move out of CAL myself. The only reason is that CA is overpopulated. I need some elbow room. You may see me in Oregon. Been through OR many times. It is a gorgeous state. I guess you just have to do your research and try to find a low crime area. No matter where you move to, you can't find paradise. It doesn't exist. Take a deep breath freinds, it makes you feel good.

CA is overpopulated because of the influx of illegal and legal immigrants from Mexico. Most of the population increase has been hispanics and it has gotten more violent with more crime because of this and the overpopulation situation. Why would you WANT to go around on the defense always looking over your shoulder paranoid that someone is going to jump you/rape you etc? I sure don't want to live in an area where I need to carry pepper spray everywhere I go. Things shouldn't be like that. There is something WRONG with that and that should be a sign of a problem. We need to stop covering up problems with bandages like getting more violent protective means and widening the freeways - there is an overpopulation problem and an immigration problem and THAT is the underlying problem that should be tackled. No one is screaming, we are having a discussion about real problems. People should not try to silence other people who are talking about real problems and issues that exist and discussing what could be done about them. Dialogue creates ideas and solutions and those things should never be silenced. These kind of discussions are also necessary for letting individual people know what real problems other individuals are having with their hometown. This makes us ALL aware of the situations surrounding the need for relocation. I personally would want to know if I were moving to a place where it was necessary for me to keep mace, knives and weapons with me. Right now I live in Simi Valley and commute to LA to work but I see no need for weapons. That line of thinking bothers me.

The hispanic population up here is mostly comprised of Mexicans from central Mexico and the Oaxaca region. They are family oriented and hard workers. Bottom line.....GET OUT OF CALIFORNIA.
Hello Buchanan:

Where do you live? How did you research and decide upon that location over all others? With all due respect, How can one " know " a city by talking to its officials or traveling through it? Do you have insider information!!! I for one would like to know where to get an accurate accounting of the crime in a particular area.....city and outlying areas. Which city has the least crime, the biggest jail and the most militant police department and a huge tax base to prosecute undesirables......to some degree that tells me what will happen to the ciminal element living there. Can you tell me what to "google" to find this info?

I appreciate the fact smaller towns are trying to improve their image. Around here they do that by not responding to calls made to the police, and, not recording the crime that does happen. Logically all Mexican's aren't militant but how can you tell which ones are the good guys when they don't speak English except in their homes. How many of them actually try and fit in to their neighborhood or their community. I have experienced and observed everything mentioned above by those living in CA and I live in Springfield OR. Its because I'm scared I"m leaving here. Where would you suggest a professional, on disability due to an auto accident, on a limited low fixed income relocate to?

Default Crime

Crime is really everywhere. Some cities have more some less. Grants Pass has a lot of crime according to statistics. While we were there we saw police on two occasions doing a really great job of keeping the peace. There came to our lodge once to help a couple that were arguing to the point of tears. We saw ambulance and fire rescue vehicles buzzing around town. I was impressed with the emergency services in Grants Pass. I would feel well protected if we lived there. The police seemed friendly and polite. That city is doing a lot of things right.

I never felt concern for our safety the whole time we were in Oregon.

Dan

Thank you! I like the attitude. I am also new here, but added to that I am new to the Portland area.
There are many different nationalities here and they seem to mix well. There is something that I have noticed. Many years ago there was an "influx" of Vietnam, Taiwan, Chinese peoples. It seemed that everywhere you went they were the only languages we heard, and as Americans we were all saying the same things then, "Speak English". Well they have. It seems that every once in a while we get a new culture showing up and this is good because that is what we are in America. Diversified cultures. We go through the same things each time-- language, customs and learning from both sides. There were then and there are still street gangs from every culture in America, there are Italians, Blacks, Vietnamese, Chinese, Puerto Rican, White and many more street gangs throughout all the states, which ever is closest to us will naturally have the most impact, it doesn't mean the others are not there.

With the Mexicans arriving, I am seeing something different. Either they want or we are trying to be politically correct and doing so--- change America. Instead of Mexican being another culture to learn we are being told that we HAVE to adapt to it. We have required programs to teach Mexican language, we didn't do that for the Vietnamese. We have to speak Mexican to get some jobs, we didn't do that for the Chinese. There are also many that are here illegally, BUT, when they are found out. They are sent back, do we do that to the Mexicans?

With everything being fair, why do we treat the Mexicans differently than any other culture that has joined us? Give them help to adjust, give us the learning to help them. But don't change the whole of America to be politically correct. Don't make it mandatory that we learn the language.

56MercGal: I think that no matter where you move in the Rogue Valley you're going to be better off than Salinas. I am very familiar with Southern Oregon although I live in Salem, the state capital. Remember that perceptions by Oregonians might be different than yours.

It is true that GP has a reputation as being totally red-necked. There's a certain level of Klansman-type attitude that is out in the hinterlands. But...there is also a very definite hippie attitude which is borne out by the marijuana farms. So, they kinda cancel each other out!

Coming from a place like Salinas you're going to find it much more safe in Grants Pass. Is there crime? Sure. Are there illegals? Sure. Crime and illegals and drugs are everywhere now. You just won't find it as prevalent as in Salinas.

As for outdoor activities, Southern Oregon has everything, you couldn't really pick a better place. Since you're really interested in wineries, you might go up the freeway another hour and look at Roseburg since Douglas County has quite a few wineries and vineyards.

Welcome to Oregon!!

Thumbs up Illegal invasion is real

I just wanted to jump into this thread because I also feel that Hap was being the racist here in his earlier post as well. I am looking to move from my Philadelphia suburb home to a place that has not been overrun with Mexicans who can't speak English. I am offended at our government's support of ILLEGALS and their total laziness to learn the language of this country. They are here to sponge off the American taxpayers and I'm sick and tired of it.

I am looking to move to a place like Oregon where perhaps legal immigrants are in the majority for a change, and they have a sense of pride in their citizenship and in the place where they live. I am finding that less and less in suburban Philadelphia.

I don't want to go to the local supermarket and hear the workers speaking to each other in Spanish or see signs in Spanish next to the English ones.

It has always struck me as completely racist that you will see support for Spanish but not Italian, French, Dutch, Japanese etc. Has our President made some kind of deal with Mexico that will turn us into The United States of Mexico??? I certainly didn't get a chance to vote on that!

I am enjoying all the posts about Oregon and using the information to make an informed decision about a best place in Oregon to call my new home. I have lived most of my life in suburban Philadelphia so this illegal alien invasion is basically driving me from my native area.

The problem is REAL and I will be reflecting my opinion in the mid-term elections by booting out ALL incumbents because the ones in office now have not done a blessed thing to improve things.
