We are relocating to Portland from Sammamish, WA. My husband will be working near the airport PDX. He will be paying OR taxes - any advice between the 2 areas? we have 2 elementary-age children

I love both of these areas so I dont think you can go wrong. Happy Valley is closer to Portland and shopping and nightlife but with a small town feel. Everyone is pretty friendly and you can't beat the schools. They are over crowded right now with all of the new homes though. They are building more schools so it will be ok. I love it here and have raised my kids here without problems.
Camas and Washougal are my next 2 favorite areas. You really feel like you get away from the city and it is beautiful there. The people are very friendly too. What I really like is the parks and trails. They have a lot more choices than we do in Happy Valley and they are really clean and I feel safe. If you are an outdoors kind of family, I think this would be the better choice. Over all you can't go wrong in either. I think the comute from Happy Valley would be much better though. Good luck! |

Camas smells. There's a paper mill there and the place smells like rotten eggs. The commute to Portland can be brutal and will only get worse once construction (or whatever they decide) starts on the I-5 bridge.
