Exclamation HELP.....Relocating to Medford Area

I am relocating to the Medford Area from the central coast area. Does anyone have any advice about reasonable housing in this area? I'm not looking for a brand new home, just one thats in good shape. Prefer 3-4 bedroom house. Also would be willing to commute from the Grants Pass Area.

Default SW Medford

The area is pretty expensive as of late. Don't look toward Ashland- that's wasting your time. Grants Pass is lower pricing but the commute will kill you with how heavy the traffic is on I-5. Look in the area of Central Point and Medford (around the Table Rock Rd area). There's alot of housing being built over there, but like you said- might be more spendy. The older and lower price houses will be in the areas between Jacksonville Hwy and W. Stewart Ave in the SW area of Medford, and they will save you alot more money.

Hmm, I am just now researching that area as well. I was leaning more towards Ashland tho. What's the problem there I wonder.

Default Ashland

Ashland is double the price Medford would be, has its own city sales tax because of the numerous tourists that come during Shakespeare festivals, but is truly delightful. Ashland is only 12 miles from Medford so don't feel like you would rarely see it. They are like brothers. Ashland has a beautiful park and wonderful shops. You can think about moving in the VERY low priced areas between Medford and Ashland. There are 2 tiny towns between them: Talent and Phoenix. I question if they are low priced as much as poverty. I see a bit of both before you hit the expensive area of Ashland. Just don't plan on setting up a shop in Ashland- rent is 7,000 a month in many of those tiny shops from what the shop owners tell me (that's why half are going out of business while the other half are coming in). And for those that are politically motivated. Ashland is quite liberal with all the students but there are plenty of rich people that are to the right. The entire southern Oregon is Republican by a huge slant.

Reading you loud and clear. We are trying to relocate out of the midwest because we are outdoor types spending our extra time backpacking and the like. Ashland had access to many areas we adore including N Cal. We've spent several weeks traveling the west and have agreed that Southern Or and N Cal are favorites.

We especially enjoy national forests and off season activities. I admit we're having a rough time making the move without securing dependable jobs first, but we shall prevail.

Politics are secondary as we are voting for the best overall plan, also known as the lesser of the evils

All info is taken into consideration. Thanx for the heads up! Greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Default medford is nice!

you'll love medford - it has a small downtown that has a few nice shops (my fav - urabnminx.com) and restruants (my fav - gorilla bites). If your still looking for rentals check out southernoregonrentals.com - they have quite a few listings and links to other agencies with rentals, its kind of a catch all for rental property managers.

Downtown Medford is charming, but I wouldn't want to live there. East Medford has some nice older and newer homes, but traffic can be a challenge depending on where you want to go. If you can afford something in Ashland, do; otherwise, consider Central Point.

White City is an eastern suburb of Medford. Compared to the new developments in Central and Eagle Point, White City has more of a "poor, country cousin" feel to it.

White has a goodly number of places with larger lots, many with small barns, 4x4 s parked in yards, and a horse or 2 grazing out back.

Fancy? No, but certainly not pretentious. With Lake of the Woods and Winema national Forest only 30 minutes up 140, White City is probably suited to folks who are comfortable doing the ATV, snowmobile thing and who aren't concerned with snob appeal.
