Post Moving to Redwood, OR

I am moving to the small town Redwood and can't find much information on it. I am looking for a house (in good shape) with a salary of 23,000 a year. Does anyone know what is considered to be a good price to pay for a home in this town? Also I wanted to know if the town over, Grants Pass, is it a lively city or the opposite?

I've never heard of a town named Redwood by Grants Pass. There is a Redwood Avenue in GP.

Exclamation No Town?

Maybe there is no town, only on the this website does it say that there is a town. Anyways I am wanting to move to the Grants Pass area then, what would be considered a good price for housing? Is this town lively or boring? Suggestion from local Oregonians is much appreciated And please don't just put down dreamer, I need answers Buying a house has always been a dream yes. In my life I have always been a doer not a thinker. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it.

Like Hawk said, there is no town near GP named Redwood, there is however, an area just to the west of GP one might call the Redwood district of GP, it along the Redwood hwy leaving Grants Pass. As for the cost of housing in Grants Pass, well, that all depends on what your looking for, housing with decent acreage will start around 200K and up, homes inside the city limits of town will start at 130K and go up from there, again it all depends on what your looking for and the condition of the home. You ask if the town is lively, what do you concider lively? Are you seeking an active night life? I wouldn't call Grants Pass a cultural mecca, it a typical Southern Oregon town. I grew up in Grants Pass that was many years ago and I still live in the area, I live in Medford. My children were born and raised in Grants Pass and love the area, they've been there for 40 years and wouldn't concider moving. It is what you make it, it's as friendly as you want it to be.

You'd better go up and check it out. To some of us GP is just an ugly lumber town on the way to someplace better....

Redwood is not really a town, it is a census designated place next to Grants Pass. To learn about Redwood, just look up info on Grants Pass. It is a commercial center for the region.

I don't know why you would call GP an "ugly lumber town" there has been no lumber mills in GP for years. In my opinion, GP is one of the best looking towns in Southern Oregon. I could think of a number of towns that are far worse than Grants Pass. The people of GP take pride in their town and it is reflected in the appearance and atmosphere.

So sorry. The stacks of lumber you see on the way into town led me to believe it is, or was, a lumber town. You are to be congratulated on your civic pride.

You are mistaken. 12 miles away in the city of Rogue River there is a mill where there are stacks of lumber that can be seen from I-5, but there are no "stacks of lumber" in Grants Pass and haven't for more time than I've been alive. And if you want to see an ugly lumber town, please head to Aberdeen, Washington (or walk outside your home in Eureka for that matter, yeesh) and then tell me Grants Pass is that horrible. GP is no Seattle, but for a podunk town in the middle of nowhere, it's pretty nice if you stay away from Walmart. Personally, I'd take it over Eureka anyday. Arcata, maybe I'd consider it, but Eureka no way.

And to the OP, no, Redwood is not a town. It's a "Census-designated place" in the Grants Pass urban growth boundary. Much of it is now in the Grants Pass city limits I believe. My family refers to it as "the Redwood area" or "out by Redwood Avenue" or (along with the other areas south of the river) as "the south side of town."

The area was overdeveloped in the housing boom so you can probably find some good deals on foreclosures or short sales there. Not really sure what you can buy for $23k a year though--I feel like that's not really enough to buy a house anywhere, even somewhere like Grants Pass, unless you have a very sizeable down payment.
