You win. She is thinking of Albany. Which doesn't smell as bad as it used to.

Technically, most of the pungent mills in the area are in the industrial city of Millersburg. That town is attached to northeast Albany. All those mills you see driving on I-5 north of Albany are located in Millersburg.

Just a note of clarification if I can...
regarding tablemtns comment about the Millersburg area being pungent.
I have lived in Albany for 6 years and spend about 2 or 3 days each week working open houses in a neighborhood in Millersburg...to describe it as "pungent" is somewhat of a misrepresentation and I think dated "conventional wisdom." First of all, there has been a lot of money spent to reduce the emissions!
Yes, there is still occasionally an odor, and on days where the inversion layer sets in, it can permeate the area but it is not something that any of the home owners I know in Millersburg (trust me, I know quite a few) have any complaint about...in fact, those pungent mills provide the revenue base for Millersburg (NO property tax levy this year!). I can think of about 4 or 5 days a year where I can smell it in SW Albany...
I make these comments not to be argumentative...but there is this stigma that has settled on this great little town that I always feel the obligation to stand up and wave my hands to say...Don't count Albany/Millersburg out, the bad isn't as bad as people think, and the goods by FAR out weigh it.
Thanks for letting me come to the defense. Have a great day.
Dave

I have to agree with Dave somewhat.
"If you thinks it smells now you should have been here 15 years ago"
I used to travel I-5 off and on when I was younger. We would roll up the windows and close the vents as we passed Millersburg. More recently I've ferried students in our family to Corvallis and noted that yes it is much much better.

I'd hate to have smelled it 15 years ago! We drove up I-5 2 years ago and had to hit recirculate when passing through that area. Bleah.

There are worse industrial smells elsewhere in the state. Ever driven by the mill in Toledo?
