Default Missing Family Found Alive After 2 Weeks

I hope my life will never depend on Oregon`s sorry-ass Search & Rescue. If every possible rout was not checked-out, thay did not do there job. Oregon, get sum professionals. This is no job for the incompetent.

As a previous member of the Josephine County Search and Rescue, I feel they did a great job.
No-one knew where this family went (a shortcut in storm conditions?), there are a limited number of these brave volunteers that spend a tremendous amount of time away from their own families to help find people who fail to use any common sense whatsoever when they make thier travel plans.
Until you have spent an entire day in adverse weather conditions, searching for someone who is somewhere between Ashland and "The Coast", you wont fully understand the hardship that these rescuers face.
The lesson to be learned is to be prepared and always let someone know what route you are taking and when you expect to be back. Knowing the approximate vicinity that someone is believed to be in, helps a lot!

Being lost in a motor vehicle the search area could have been the entire state...

Going by what is said on the news it is no wonder they did not want to be found...

I was visiting OR and North Cal and I ended up on that no-name road across the top of the Siskiyou (sp). Wow what a goat path, sure it was on the map, sure it was used by loggers and wildlife. But no average person should be allowed on that stretch of potential death. If you had the least bit of adverse conditions or a larger than a midsize vehicle you had my sympathy. 3hours later when we came back down off the mountain my (afraid of heights) wife was nearly kissing the ground.
Single lane, one way, detours, crazy ass log trucks zippin around, turn outs, almost no place to turn around, massive ruts, sheer cliffs, rocks in the road, and so high up you're looking down on helicopters I can't see why more ppl don't perish out there every year.

I packpack all winter long so whatever to the that. I understand the PoV. My point is that state is so sparsely populated you could lose a plane crash out there.

I love the place, but that's just me. I'm not a fan of the majority of the human race. I like the solidtude.

Go oregon.

It's great you don't like Oregon we want to keep it all to are selves. What happened to people being responsible for them selves. Lets just take this huge motor home up a logging road in the winter. Gee think it might snow in the mountains.

Default Search & Rescue

To begin with...the search and rescue took place with information that was provided by FAMILY MEMBERS as to where these idots went....the route the ended up taking is NOT PASSABLE during the winter...and you need a 4 wheel drive during the Summer !!! By now you have seen the news that these people were wanted on warrants issued by Arizona....meth-heads.....and have been arrested...after telling people they were heading BACK TO ARIZONA, but found & arrested on the Northern Oregon Coast !!!!!!!!

As someone born and raised in oregon, you really have to be here, to appreciate the diverse landscape. We have hot dry desssert areas with all the pitfalls that go with it.( eastern oregon). We have gentle valleys hidden in rough mountains (everywhere), a beautiful coast that can run flat and sandy, to dunes, to mountains tumbling into the sea, and high cliffs that drop off to who knows where. We have a jumble of regions that are constantly changing and any one who doesnt know the area and heads into the mountains in winter with less then a four wheeler and C.B. is not only asking for trouble they are risking there life and the life of every volunteer who has to go look for thier stupid self.Seriosly don't blame search and rescue for a couple of criminals trying to hide and not smart enough to check out the roads first.Yet stupid enough to go on the news and give interviews while they knew the law was looking for them. honestly people when did it become ok to expect the authorities to bail out adults for thier own mistakes and stupidities.do you really want to live in a world run by big brother or do we all want to just grow up and be responsible for ourselves.

I have to agree, someone's poor planning does not automatically make it societies responsibility to come save their sorry carcass.

Default How Dare You Blame

You must have some real self righteousness issues: You dare to blame those people for getting lost? They are real people, traveling around for fun and not professionals who make rules about travel for a living-- like you used to be. You should appologize for saying something about people in such a horrible, horrifying situation. You make me sick and I find myself wondering if you got hurt if someone out there would be saying, "serves him/her rigth! blah, blah, blah."
