I forgot to mention, McMinnville has a newspaper which is published twice a week. It's online at NewsRegister.com - News and information for McMinnville and Yamhill Valley, Oregon - wine country newspaper, and for the moment is still free, though they have announced plans to charge for web access.

Thank you so much Larry. Putting all the gathered information in a file and planning a trip up there early June.

I moved from Sacramento to Silverton at the beginning of this year. I absolutely love it. I did have trouble finding an affordable rental, however. I lucked out and found a little bungalow about a block from the park. The landlord had reduced the rent by $100 (to $750) which put it at the very top of my budget. There were very few rentals (homes/duplexes) under $1000. But the trade-off of being here far outweighs the rent. I was paying well over $1000 in Sacramento for 1/2 a duplex. From my location I can easily walk to the Farmer's Market, downtown (& the movie theater, which is currently undergoing restoration due to a fire earlier this year), the hospital/doctors' offices. Both Safeway & Roth's (a great, local market) are just a couple miles away and are a nice stroll if you only need to get a few items. I only find the need to go to Salem once or twice a month to do bigger shopping (Costco or Fred Meyer) but it's nice to know that it's close & easy to get to as well as to Portland.
