Default Eugene vs. Salem and about commuting

I am hoping to move to Eugene, Oregon. However, most of the jobs seem to be in Salem. What is the commute time between Eugene and Salem. From reading forums and talking to some people, I am not impressed with Salem. Eugene feels like my kind of town. I just need to know about What type of commute is it? I currently live in Maryland and commute into Washington every day. So, I am use to a difficult commute. I hope to leave that behind or at least minimize it. I would appreciate any info. about the differences in the cities and the commute between them.

Eugene is definitely a more attractive city. I'm not sure about jobs in Salem, but the commute isn't bad. The 5 Freeway between Eugene and Salem isn't bad and it should take about an hour each way.

Thanks so much for the information. I am really getting excited about the move, but I wanted to get an idea about commutes before I applied for jobs. When you do the second worst commute in the country every day that issue becomes really import. Thanks again.
