Looking For Nice Lake Town In Oregon
Hello. I have been to quite a few places in Oregon and I love the state. I am looking to possibly purchase real estate there. I would like some suggestions of some nice lake towns in Oregon that I could visit. I would like to purchase property on or very close to a lake where I could boat, fish, etc. I know there are many rivers with waterfront property in Oregon, but I would prefer a lake. However, most of the lakes I have seen in Oregon don't have towns close by or do not have homes on the lake with waterfront property. Either that or the towns are tiny and have no modern conviences. I would prefer the town to be a moderate or small town, but still have shopping, movie theatre and at least a few restaurants and such. Basically I do not want to have to drive far from the lake for a Walmart or to get something to eat etc. If a larger city was close by maybe within 20 miles away or so, that would be ideal. I would also prefer that the lake is not in the desert. If any of you out there have any suggestions for me to look into or visit, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You,Joe

You might look into the Veneta and Elmira area about 10 minutes west of Eugene. While not entirely on a lake, there are some properties in the towns that have lakefront property on Fern Ridge Reservoir. Both of these communities are neither too isolated from an urban area, or in a desert (actually it is lush forest and wetlands).

good suggestions GueroLoco!
also, might look into Dune City, Siltcoos Lake. Has some homes along the lake there, and its right out of Florence.
Lakeside has several houses around it, and also several houseboats ON it. Its about 20min. out of Coos Bay/North Bend.
Lake Oswego i think has some houses around the lake, they'd be mighty spendy though!
Lakeview, ive not been there, but you might look it up...
I believe there are some houses on/around Loon Lake, its about 15min. out of Reedsport.
Theres a couple to start.
Good luck!

Check our Sweet Home.
Great location with regard to recreational activities; lakes, rivers, and mountains all close.
Real estate prices are still pretty reasonable (although there is some development going on that is pushing to make it a resort area in the long term)...

Re:
Thanks for the input so far. I have been to Siltcoos lake and it's a nice lake, but doesn't really have any homes for sale on the lake. The homes there are very limited and very secluded. The ones I seen were accessable only by boat or long dirt roads. I have also been to Foster Lake and love the lake and the fishing there, but there are no homes directly on the water other then the new townhouses they just built there which are supposedly going for $700,000. I'd prefer to have a home with waterfront property and a dock and such. Sweet Home is nice, just not exactly what I am looking for. I'll definitely have to check into Loon lake and Lakeview though. If you guys have any other suggestions, I would like to hear them.
Thanks,
Joe

You also might want to look into the community of Dorena, not too far west of Cottage Grove. Triangle Lake (about 30 minutes from Eugene, in the Coast Range) might be a good choice too (there are many houses right on the lakeshore); although I cant say for sure if there are any properties for sale there, and it is 30 minutes from the closest cities in the valley and the coast (dont know if this is too out of the way for you). Hope this helps.

too bad youre a bit late, the island out in the middle of Siltcoos was for sale a few years ago......bit out of my price range! lol but wow, wouldnt it be cool? My inlaws own a house on the lake there. They sure do love it.
Hummmm.....other lakes w/houses......I know theres a 3bdrm 2story houseboat for sale on Lakeside w/a little bit of land w/it. or at least it was still up for sale a few weeks ago...was pretty good price too, only like 140x or something.
My husband said check into Mercer Lake....its north of Florence. He says its pretty terrific..

Lake towns
Hi Joe,
I agree with the info about Sweet Home. The town is about 8800 people and property is still very reasonable compared to much of the state. Eugene is just 20-25 miles away and Lebanon, with a Walmart is about 14-17 miles. The small town feel is great. There are 2 lakes very close to town and half a dozen with in 30-45 minutes drive. It is just 15 miles off of I-5, in the low foothills of the Cascades. If you love trees you can drive up river from Greenpeter reservoir and find a gazillion places to fish or camp and then drive on VERY low traffic roads through miles and miles of pristine forests.
In the summer there is a big music festival with some pretty big names coming to town and you just have to eat at the A & W. It is like stepping back in time and the food is great. (No, I don't own any stock in it, but we try to stop here everytime we go through town.)
There are home sites along much of the north side of the lake. Nice boat launch on the south side (along highway 20) and yes, the city is preparing for some pretty substantial growth. e-mail me for more info. I am a Realtor and plan to retire in a small town so I have been researching them. This one ranks high on the list.
We stayed a few nights on a farm near there and saw deer, wild turkeys, ducks and the current resident had a cougar wander by a couple of weeks ago.

Private Lake?
Joe, how about a private lake of about 110 acres in Bandon. It has great fishing for bass, bluegill, trout, salmon and catfish. The lake is surrounded by timber and wind protected. There is a house on it with a dock that is for sale I think. If you want, you can email me at Mod cut.
Thanks, kbbhere.

Klamath Falls/Klamath Lake might be a good place to look.
There are a few lakefront homes around Detroit Reservoir.
