I have 7 years retail management and more recently 6 years as a senior advertising agent. I would love to get my foot in the door with photography or journalism but Im open to working almost any job that pays the bills. I wouldn't be opposed to a job at the mall or something or a mothers market or trader joes kind of health store place. I have found 3 bedrooms for $1000 and nicer 2 bedrooms for $900... Which are a huge savings compared to the $1400 I pay for my 1 bedroom now. Yes yes I know I might not make $15 an hour living in Portland... But even making $9 I could easily afford a 1 bedroom! Any thoughts on Happy Valley?... Ive seen great apartments there. How far is that from portland... 15 to 30 minutes away?

Happy Valley is an area that was in the middle of a building boom when the bottom dropped out of the economy a few years ago. So a lot of the houses and apartments there are brand new or close to it, and the vibe is more generic suburbia than Portland hip. 15 to 30 minutes to downtown sounds about right but I don't have firsthand knowledge. You might want to try posting in the Portland forum.

I don't know a whole lot about Happy Valley but from observation, it appears as your typical cookie-cutter suburban setting. On the plus side, rents will be less expensive than in Portland because of the many apartment complexes looking for occupants. You would also be near The Clackamas Center shopping mall where you may be able to find a job.

Close to the city, but yet safe and suburban, near shopping and new apartments? Sounds like it might be perfect!

Does anyone know the best time to visit to look at apartments... Im planning on spring. Not sure how the weather is in spring there compared to Cali besides having a lot more rain. Any things I should check out, places I should visit, hotels or resturants or shopping or certain good apartments in happy valley area? Also Lake Oswego looks great... Is it worth the higher price tag?
