I'm feeling totally like the City Mouse in that old story of the City Mouse and the Country mouse. I wonder if I'll adjust someday...

Today a black spider scurried across my arm while I was sitting in my chair - and scared the bejesus out of me. I screamed like a little girl (oh, okay I am a girl so I'm entitled), flailed my arms wildly and jumped out of my chair. I then promptly tripped over my own feet, fell down and knocked my head on the floor while bruising my knuckles on the coffee table. Back in LA you had to pay for this kind of entertainment.... sigh...

I'm not existing peacefully with the spiders yet, they just keep wigging me out - and man are they everywhere.

On the plus side, I just saw a couple of those slug things we were talking about before - and those didn't even phase me. They're really no different from a number of inhabitants on the Sunset Strip at 2am on a Saturday night - lol.

But officially the count is Spiders (1) / Barbara (0).

Off to take another steaming cup of aspirin for the aches....

I'm sorry you were hurt Barb.

Most spiders don't hurt anyone. They are just living their lives, doing what spiders do.

Have a beautiful day.

Indeed - I consider spiders as Nature's Pest Control Patrol.

I do keep 'em out of the house, but outdoors I usually leave 'em be (unless the wife demands I remove the odd cobweb or so).

As a result, we have practically zero mosquitoes... whereas the neighbors tend to complain about them a *lot*.

@Random_Walk. I think we need some REALLY BIG spider webs around here to get the mosquitoes! LOL
We had some indoor spiders, too, but after we tore up the carpet, there hasn't been a problem.

I tell people that cobwebs are made by cob spiders. They usually believe me for about as long as I can keep a straight face - which usually isn't long.

I'd be just fine if I could keep them out of the house. Well, and off my doorways so I didn't get a face full of spider web walking outside. They are all over the windows outside, tons of webbing everywhere. I just looked at one of the screens, and it's covered with webs - which it was not that way yesterday.

Funny thing is, I don't see any spiders outside around these webs - just webs growing out of everything. Maybe they are baby spiders???

Sigh... really confused....

bghouse, I feel you. Spiders creep me out in a big way too. Snakes, ok, mice, ok.
Spiders, ticks NO. For one thing I think they must love me for some reason because even with many other people around I'm always the one that has one crawling on me.

Lots of trees usually equate to lots of spiders. So if you have a lot of trees and shrubbery close to your house, building, that is part of it. You may not see them so much during the day as some spider types are more likely to go back to their hidey hole during the day and run out if something gets caught. Or go out and wait at night for night insects.

Spiders create work because one of the better ways to keep them knocked back a little is to constantly sweep, moving chairs furniture etc. sweeping behind everything, shaking out rugs. I hate that kind of work and you have to do it a lot consistently to make a dent.

So big city to country? I am thinking of making a similar 'big move' in a couple of years and wonder if I'm being an idiot. Lived in the midwest my entire life and thinking of moving west. Not sure if I'll adjust to all the differences in flora, fauna, weather, etc.

I am not sure why, but I like spiders. I usually escort them out the front door without hurting them, if possible. Flies? I show no mercy. Not really sure why, but I find spiders fascinating. I know that they are more scared of me than I am of them, and they certainly don't want to pick a fight, so I leave them alone. I have never been bit by a black widow though, that might change my attitude.

We have woodland spiders who spin webs into the air and let the wind carry them where it will. They are harmless, and seasonal. By summer they will all be gone.

I have gotten a lot of amusement by speculating that 'bghouse' stands for 'bughouse.'

LOL. I would have thought that the spiders would come out in summer and hide in winter though... kinda like bears :-) Oh, the things I'm learning
