Tiffela74,

I think it would be hard to pick a favorite area in Oregon, although Sunny Valley seemed really nice. We loved everywhere we went, including the coast, although it rains a little too much at the coast for my tastes.

As far as what surprised us... maybe the sheer number of retired people in the area. Not that there's anything wrong about being retired, and we knew there was a large retired population, but it seemed to be even more than I would have guessed. I was also pleasantly surprised by how many people had horses in the outskirts of every town.

I hope the next time I go there I can actually find out where people trail ride- there must be plently of trails, since there are so many horses. However, I didn't see any marked other than along the coast, so I am assuming that locals just know where to go.

Unhappy Moveing to southern Oregon?

I'll tell you what, if your really thinking about moveing here to southern Oregon you should give it a lot of thought. I have been liveing here for 35+ years and seen this vally grow and grow, never seen so many cars houses and people. It used to be very nice back when you could cross the street with ease, and now your lucky if you can even get accross the street. I never thought it would ever get like this, now everybody wants to move here, are so it seems. I used to here people talk about the Rogue Vally growing so much that it will turn in to another LA, and the way it's growing it really makes me wonder. I guss if that happens I'll move on to some other little town thats not growing so much and so fast.

lilrich453, you have to consider that the US population has gone up nearly 50% in that same time frame. One really can't go anywhere that's not changed by that. Add to that the number of Baby Boomers retiring or nearing retirement age, it's not going to get any better in the foreseeable future, especially not in areas which retirees might find attractive. Like some national parks, these areas will be the victims of their own success.
