lol, fair question. but that's exactly what we're looking for, the peace and quiet. i have been trying to write a book for the better part of 6 years, but it's just not going to happen in LA, there are just too many distractions and obligations.

Just because many retired people live in a place does not mean it is boring. There are lots of retired people in Las Vegas and I don't think many people would call that a boring place.

To each their own. To me a place where people flock to that is considered to be hip or cool is very boring because everyone is trying so hard to be like everyone else.

I'm just saying I don't think most people in their late-20s are interested in the same things as most people in their mid-60s. And the coastal communities seem to cater to year-round residents (a disproportionately high retiree population compared to other parts of the state) and tourists. Plus I said I thought it would have been boring at that age, and I was really quite shallow then and didn't appreciate things as much as I do now as I approach the decade in which I have to start seriously socking away money for retirement so I can live at a place like the coast. OK, that sentence was too long.

And to the OP: you want peace and quiet? You can't find a better place (except when the occasional winter windstorm makes things a little interesting).

Not all young people are vapid and unfocused. If they can make a living, there is a vital and active social life for young people on the coast. I have lived my whole life in Oregon and have several friends on the coast. We had a great time when we were young, and now their children and grandchildren are carrying on the tradition.

I have spent most of my life not living in cities at all, and only making infrequent visits to cities. I don't ever recall being bored. Now, with the internet available and satellite TV, rural isolation is a thing of the past.

I like Yachats (I always seem to see lots of gay folks there if you want some community); Manzanita; and Bandon. They all have access to good food, too, if that's important to you. Once you have some towns in mind, you can get on the real estate firms' websites; the larger ones often have a property management branch as part of their services. Enjoy your adventure!
