Default Lyme disease in Oregon?

Is Lyme disease a concern in Oregon? Since Oregon is so green, I'd expect a lot of deer and ticks, but the CDC statistics seems to indicate a fairly low rate of Lyme disease (possibly only in transplants, who got infected before they moved). So, are ticks and Lyme disease something to watch out for in Oregon?

It varies, depending on where you are. In the Willamette Valley, coast or Coast Range, ticks are not a huge issue. In Southern Oregon you can find them in the woods or tall grasses, in Eastern Oregon also in tall grasses, sometimes in dense thickets in the Cascades. In multiple decades of hiking/backpacking/camping in Oregon, I've never gotten one. I've pulled several off my dogs.

I have never gotten a ticket myself, even after weeks of camping and outdoor living at a time.

Not to say it's not here, and not a problem. It's just the least of my worries.

I've seen ticks mostly in the forest, during a wet Spring.

Pretty sure ticks are more of an issue in the Rogue Valley/Southern Oregon than they are most of the rest of the state (according to my vet, anyway).

So, lots of ticks and no Lyme?

The reason I'm asking is that, according to the CDC, 10-20% of people who get Lyme, later develop the post-Lyme disease syndrome (commonly known as "chronic Lyme"). This PLDS can apparently cripple you for life, although this issue is controversial.

I went camping in Maine once. I did a search on lyme disease and it seems it's not nearly a problem in the PNW like it is in the New England area.

I never saw a tick in 40 years of outdoor life in the Willamette Valley. In Douglas County, I have to keep my dogs on frontline and preventick collars continually, and had to treat one dog for lyme. Both my wife and I have had ticks attach to us.

It depends where you are. I don't think there are ticks on the coast either.
