My opinion is that paying for private school in Corvallis would be a waste, due to the high quality of the public schools. For example, as I recall, over the past few years, none of the kids who went to Harvard from Corvallis were from private schools. They were all from the public school system. That's something to keep in mind. Corvallis high schools have very good college advising. When I was a student in a rural area near Corvallis, we didn't have college counseling. The people in my school actually sent me to Corvallis High to meet with college recruiters.

Thanks all for the info. We were discouraged by comments about the Oregon schools, but Corvallis seems to be a bright spot in the educational system. Looking forward to our visit.

Nanannie--There are actually a lot of bright spots in the public schools here in Oregon.

I agree. I think the bright spots are the schools with a good amount of parental involvement. In my opinion, that's the key here.

jjpop--I agree. That has always been the common denominator from what I have seen.

AShbrook is well worth the investment, and it costs less than a third of the equivalent education anywhere else. Both my kids attended from K-8...and its been the best thing we've ever done for them. Sure we had to make a few financial sacrafices, but to see how well they've done, and will continue to do makes it worth it. The curriculum, school and teachers are great there...and the atmosphere is so fun and supportive. I recommend it heartily.

I would not recommend Ashbrook Independent School from our own personal experience. A good idea for a school but poorly executed and managed. The public schools in corvallis are well funded and have highly qualified and educated teachers. Save your money, I wish we would have.
