Every year about this time, I start looking forward to the cool, calming rains. All this heat and dust is getting on my nerves. September is usually a terrific month throughout Oregon, but this year it just feels like summer just keeps coming. I know, I will be whining about the rain soon, but just thinking about how happy all my plants will be.

I am all for summer, but sometimes I wish we would get a rain once every week or so to mix it up. One of the things I like about S. Oregon is that we get out summer "fix" and then appreciate the cooler seasons a bit more. I am already starting to think snow!

Anyone else out there looking forward to the gloom?

Yes, but not until November, please!

It's been such a great summer. It would be nice to stretch it out a bit more!

I've got a few more backpacking/climbing trips planned until mid-October(Wallowas, Diamond Peak, Enchantments up in Washington). After that it can rain every day. I don't mind going fishing or crabbing in wet weather, but backpacking or climbing in the rain just sucks. I've enjoyed the beautiful summer and I think I got great 70 degree and sunny weather even at the coast most of the times I visited.

It's been a pretty dry summer--in Portland I think we've gotten one night of rain in the last two months. I did enjoy that one night, as it was sort of refreshing to get a nice shower during the night.

I miss the rain too. It cleanses the air.

i love the rain too, miss it too..
but right now, maybe keep it good until after november.....

i like it here when it could be sunny one day and then a bit of rain to wash away the blues, and back to the sun...

oregon is a beautiful place to be...

i live in the valley (cottage grove area) and although it has been a bit hot, it is very sweet....

It's still summer, and the seasons in Oregon slightly lag the sun. The first day of spring is in March, but things really don't start growing until April. The first day of summer is in June, but the rains don't quit until July. The first day of autumn is in September, but the weather doesn't really cool off until October.

However, it's 89 degrees right now, dry as a bone, and it even smells dry. It has been over 50 days without rain. I love how the first rain smells after a long drought. I plan to stand outside for at least an hour and just breathe.

We had one cooling rain at night last week. Weather has been mild. Rain can wait. We'll get plenty soon enough.

Where I live, when there's dry weather for a time, they ban campfires. I went camping with my brother under a ban and left the second day. Camping without a campfire takes a major plus out of the thing. But we don't need careless campers starting one of those huge wildfires.

I know we could use some good rain over this way! I'm really sick of all the smoke in the air...
