lookingh for snow and a fresh area
Hello every one! My wife and I are looking to move out of california
and we are thinking about Oregon. Because we have lived in San Diego for so long and are tired of hot weather, we are looking for a city where you can get a good amount of snow. We need a place where it is fresh and cool and are looking to have a white christmas. We would really appreciate some feed back. Hope to hear from you soon.
We would even consider any city or state close to california where you can have a nice white christmas..
Thank you for your help
Johnny & Nessa

Any of the mountain towns. Greensprings above Ashland. Glendale north of Grants Pass.
Bend and Redmond to the east.
We usually get snow every year, and have had more white Christmas' than not
Top photo was 2005 bottom was 2006 Thanksgiving, Christmas time, we usually get 2 pretty good snow flurries, they last about a week and then melt away, usually due to rain. Only a couple days a yr. is travel an issue. It's the perfect amount to me.
We are 10 to 15 minutes from Grants pass.

Don't move to Klamath Falls. It is, um, not nice. Truckee California and the Lake Tahoe area have snow. Idaho has plenty of nice spots that get snow. In Oregon I'd recommend Bend, Sisters, and Ashland.

Love the pics freedom!!! I just drove down to Ashland again last weekend, and as always, had a tough time keeping my eyes on the road rather then the scenery....
Beautiful area w/plenty of stuff to keep you busy, inside and out is my take on Grants Pass, Medford, Ashland areas....
I havent been in years, but I love the area around Joseph..
My folks are realizing their dream and moving to Bend....
My Dad lives in Forest Grove, and they typically get snow for the holidays..
I live at the beach, and IMO one of the biggest drawbacks, is almost nil on snow...so dont move here if you want a white Christmas!! lol
The Gorge gets some good snow....the falls are a whole new world when seen w/snow/ice. Anyone else remember when they froze? wow.
Id start googling some of these places if I were you, see if any tug at you...
Sadly, I have no chips to hand out to anyone for a new home. We just bought our first and whoooo boy, those payments are taking a chunk outta my tush! lol
Best of luck!
Tiffany

I lived in Forest Grove from 1996 to 2003 and we had not one Thanksgiving or Christmas with snow. In fact, the whole time I lived there the most snow we had was one day with two inches. It is a very nice place to live, however.
Milwaukie is a nice town to live in but it is in a kind of microclimate and doesn't get much snow.
You might try Sandy, Oregon for snow. It is an easy commute to Portland. There is no guarantee there would be snow for the holidays but they do get dumped on sometimes. The elevation is about 1,000 feet.
I lived closer to Mt. Hood for twenty-five years--Brightwood, Welches, Rhododendron. There is no guarantee that you will have snow for the holidays but it is possible. When I lived there we were more likely to get snow the week after Christmas than we were on Christmas Day. When you do get snow it can be a lot of it. Once or twice a winter as much as 1.5 feet. In the winter of 1980 or 1981 we got 72 inches in 72 hours. It was frightful. Nobody was plowing the roads. Roofs were in danger of collapsing. The generator at the water company burned out and we didn't have water or electricity for five days.
I would stay away of the Columbia River Gorge if you have to drive into Portland to work. They get a lot of freezing rain and when they do the highway is closed. Also the wind can be strong enough to blow a car door off a car. It happened to a friend of mine who opened her car door to get out of the car and wham--it was gone.
Remember, snow can be beautiful and it is lots of fun to play in. However, it gets darned tiresome to have to dig your car out every morning and start out on the roads half an hour or more earlier than you usually do. Then when you get home, the snow plow has gone down your street and you have a bank of snow that has turned to rock solid ice blocking your driveway. Carry a pick axe in the trunk of your car. I guess I must be crazy because I kind of miss it.

I have to agree with ElizaM. I lived in Gaston for quite a while (about 10 miles up the road from Forest Grove), and we only had snow once, and it only lasted one day. The Forest Grove area basically has the same weather as Portland. If you're looking for snow, and a nice place to live, I would look at places near Bend or Ashland. However, I would not recommend most places in Southern Oregon (i.e.: Medford, Grants Pass, etc.). In Southern Oregon I would only look at Ashland area.

you know, I have to agree.....to disagree with my comment that my dad got snow at the holidays. Im sorry! I know they have had snow, around the holidays, guess just not ON it. I do remember when I was in HS there though, we did get a pretty good dump one year...maybe 91? That I do recall..i have pics somewhere to back that one up! (not posting those...way BIG ole bangs era... lol ) Brrrrr cold! We did get out of school a couple times due to snow when I was in HS. (89-92) Gaston did get snow this last year too, one of my dearest friends lives there and kept sending me pics...course, she got pretty tired of it pretty quick.
What about LaPine, Redmond?
