Oregon motorcycle drivers below age 51 must complete a motorcycle safety course and have a "state endorsement" -- The newly tightened motorcycle law states that "motorcycle drivers must complete a government-approved motorcycle safety course before they qualify for a motorcycle endorsement." For those who don't comply, "Motorcycle drivers who ride a motorcycle without state endorsement could face an increased fine of up to $720 under the new Oregon driving laws." However, "If the driver completes training and gets such an endorsement within 120 days of his sentencing, the court should reduce the fine."

I think it's a free online course, isn't it?
I guess I'm thinking about the ATV course that you can take online, that is now required.

No. It costs about $99.00 (skills) to $179.00 (basic) each class depending. TEAM OREGON Motorcycle Safety Program and http://team-oregon.org/endorsement/

That is unless you know something I don't know, and I have had all four courses even though I have ridin licensed since 1961.

I was thinking of the ATV training that you now need before going off road at the Dunes. It's an online course.

Like the boating course now required before you operate a powered marine vessel .....

http://www.boat-ed.com/oregon/ The cost is $40.00

The ATV permit is $10.00 each http://www.oregon.gov/oprd/ATV/Pages/Permits.aspx#Ocean_Shores_ATV_Permits

And you must have an operator permit and younger operators must have a hands on course. If your regular driving privilege is suspended or revoked, you may not ride any class of ATV in Oregon

rideATVoregon | Welcome

By the time you drive, ride and recreate in Oregon you will spend around $1,000 for the required permits and licenses. Many coming here don't consider that.

I looked into it when my grandson was coming to visit. I thought we might go to the dunes.

He will need a permit and so will the ATV. If under 15 he will need to complete a hands on course first. Where I lived in Coos Bay there were adults and children maimed and killed every single week. The Dunes Sheriff patrol answers calls daily. There is a reason for the requirements, but the carnage has not ended.

We decided not to do the Dunes. Went rafting on the Rogue, instead! He's 18 and will still need to take the online course if we ever take him over to the Dunes.

Because you can't fix stupid. Not to be so off-putting but after a trip to the dunes and seeing how some act I'm not surprised people get hurt. Some must think the sand is a big pillow and won't hurt if you hit it hard.

Yep. You are 100% spot on Jim. Even with the training people just don't learn untill they have an IV in their arm on the way to a distant hospital. Way too many think Off Road means time to booze too.
