And there is a lag in supplies as refineries switch over. Which in turn causes a spike due to low supplies.

Thank you for information about seasonal gas prices So, it would therefor be cheaper to drive in Oregon in the winter. And probably cheaper to move across country in the winter? Also, no gas milage lowering air conditioning needed

No, because you are doing colder starts in winter, which really eats up gas, plus winter gas mileage generally drops by about 2% because of the changed formula.

If a person starts their engine one time and drives for 24 hours to Oregon.....Just drink a bottle of Mountain Dew and drive across many states at night. Thats what I do. Cracking sunflower seeds helps too.

In Oregon you must shut off your engine to refuel. I think it is Federal. I can't see you doing 24 hours without fuel.

Seriously, this business about it taking more gas to start your engine in the winter.....

"Modern engine oils have two numbers for viscosity, such as 5W-30 or 10W-40. The first number indicates the cold viscosity, (W stands for winter), and the second number the hot viscosity. Low viscosity in cold conditions makes it easier for the starter to spin the engine."

I use 5W-30 weight oil. I would be very happy to have Oregon gas station guys change the oil, too.

I thought the "W" was for "WEIGHT"? I was wrong.

Here is an answer from http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...5112450AASzWkm with a great link.

"No matter how many times the incorrect information is repeated, it remains incorrect. If you don't know the right answer, remain silent. The "W" in 5w30 does not mean weight. Never has and probably never will.

According to the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) standard J300, the "W" stands for winter. The standard does not state it but it is strongly implied. Without going into the nitty gritty details, esentially what it means is that on the coldest day of the year, 5w30 will have the viscosity of 5 weight motor oil at that particular temperature. There is no specified temperature. The 30 represents the viscosity at or above 100 degrees centigrade."

There are tons of drive-through oil change places. In some of them, you even stay inside your car. But, surely those are available all over the USA. Most of them appear to be chains.
