wanderlust00 is on a distinguished road
Vernonia is nice except that it is on the river plane and just got flooded last month. I wouldn't suggest Estacada...PM me if you want the story. Sandy is nice and if you want the Gorge, I'd suggest Hood River, however prices are going up out there. I have relative in Beavercreek near Oregon City and it's really nice out there. There's some really nice places to live around Scappoose too.

There is a small community as you head up the gorge. I can't remember the name of it now. You turn right off the main highway and wind your way to the top of the mountain. It's very rural and quite pretty.....maybe someone more familiar with the area can give you better info on it.
