lifes2short, thanks so much for the information on Sherwood, I will add that to my list of places to check out when we come up there in April. I will also request a relo packet to get more information. You're right about the terrible price for that shuttle, I think driving ourselves may be the better choice. According to Bob, there are a lot of employers in the Wilsonville area, can the same be said for Sherwood? Can you tell me who the home builders in the area might be? And Bob, can you tell me the same about Wilsonville or McMinnville?

Actually, that is one thing we don't have...big employers. Some see that as bad, but I like it. It keeps the town more of a small town feel. Anyway, the big employer here is Allied.

As far as builders go, the only names I can think of are JR Reeves, Renaissance, and DR Horton. There are quite a few small independents though. Our house was custom built, but we are the 2nd owner. I can't think of the guys name though who built it. Sherwood has homes in all price ranges, in desireable areas. Some areas to look at include Woodhaven (huge development, very nice, all price ranges) and then the area from Sunset Rd/Ladd Hill Rd all the way east on Sunset to Murdock. The south side of Sunset in this area is all very nice residential. It looks like one continuous neighborhood, but it has a few names...Crestwood Heights, Highpoint, one I can't think of the name, and Charles Burke Heights. These last 3 are a tad nicer than CH just because they are a tad newer. Highpoint is right across from Snyder Park which is a great place.

I don't know about any builders down in Mac, and in Wilsonville the only one I know of is Arbor Homes (Villebois and some others).

Rover: I've heard that it can be hard to find a job in Oregon if you're from out of state. I've also heard from people who have found jobs immediately. I really can't comment on your sister.

I live in Salem. Worked in Wilsonville for about seven years. The commute on I-5 during morning rush hour can be half an hour to go twelve miles. Sometimes longer. I used to commute to downtown Portland from Salem and in the two and a half years since that ended, traffic has increased substantially.

Life is right, Sherwood is a great little town. Totally a commuter town with very little industry. For a number of years it was the fastest growing city in Oregon. It's about the same size as Wilsonville with very similar demographics regarding age, ethnicity and income levels.

Bob, I appreciate all you information about the similarities between Sherwood and Wilsonville. Perhaps I confused you about my sister - she has lived in Oregon for a long time (she's a doctor) and has no employment issues. However, it is my friend from Houston that is having the problem. I am not sure that I understand though why people who are from out of state would have employment difficulties. I do understand that if someone is looking for work before actually moving to Oregon, it may be a problem but once someone is actually a resident, new or otherwise, why should that be an issue? Besides which, we folks from Texas are just so darned charming and delightful that we should be almost irresistible.

Default Wilsonville is wonderful

If you like living in Southern California. Lots of people driving Cadillac Escalades with $7,000 custom wheels. This is an uppity town with lots of soccer moms and their jerk husbands who are constantly cutting you off in traffic.

Unfortunately most of Portland's suburbs have been Californicated and/or infested with non-english speaking foreigners (Beaverton sucks).

I grew up here and am looking to leave.

Funny that Californians think Oregonians are jealous of them. LOL!!! That couldn't be further from the truth. We mock and laugh at them.

My brother is in the high end remodeling business. His favorite client is a dumb Clownifornian who recently moved to the area. He knows they have money from their prior house sale and really sticks it to them hard. He pads all of the line items and then adds an extra 30% just because they are Californians. Amazingly, they never complain.

btw, I'm rich. I retired at age 41. Jealous of some Californicator with a massive polluting SUV? Get real.

He'll go far. What peace that must bring him.....

Jeez jimg1126, you must be so proud of your brother. It would appear that a lack of ethics is a family trait. Why are you so hard on people from California who have sold expensive homes and left the state? What would you have them do, refuse to accept the market value of their homes when they sell? Get real! From the tenor of your posts, it is highly likely that you would gloat over having made a "killing" in the California real estate market if you were the one it happened to. But the really overriding issue is why you think it is permissible, even laudible, to overcharge Californians who move to Oregon in search of a better life?
