When I first was transfered here as a Yuppie Corporate Clone in 1977, I hated it...it was a Cowboy and Indian town. I have changed a lot since then, with many moves around Oregon, and I'm now an archaeologist, and see much more of the local area than most.
The town has changed, a lot, yet so have I.
As I changed, to more intellectual pursuits, author, archaeologist, blah blah blah etc etc etc, I've seen this town change as well. I can't say I like the changes...property costs have escalated, mostly due to Californians and the riseing costs in Medford.
I can't blame any one for this change, it's a natural procession.
I will only leave here, permanatly, kicking and screaming. We have EVERYTHING here.

More from maybe an anthropology/sociology point of view - could someone who has been here a long time explain to me the Klamath Falls/Altamont thing? From the viewpoint of a newcomer, the split seems like a planning and taxation/duplication of services nightmare. Large portions of the Altamont area require city services, yet rely on the county (stretched thin to cover the entire territory) to provide them. The two separate school districts entirely duplicate the same services.
The county and the city have very different development goals, often for lots that sit side-by-side or one street apart, resulting in strange, herky-jerky planning. The city IS growing, fortunately at a sustainable rate, but uncoordinated planning will just take the chance for reasonable growth and turn it into another Bend-style nightmare (drive down old 97 in Bend and imagine that's what both 6th Street and Washburn will turn into).

I visited Klamath falls for the first time a few weeks ago. It appears to be a summer tourist driven town.On the outskirts there appeared to be affordable housing. In itself its a "bigcity"compared to the surrounding very small cities for many miles. I Loved the weather. They call it the banana belt of Oregon Because it doesnt rain as much as the rest of Oregon, gets more sunshine and its just beautiful there.doesnt look like much "to do" there except nature

Searching for rentals
I'm a young professional moving to Klamath Falls at the beginning of May. I'm having trouble finding a good selection of rentals on the internet. I keep seeing the same dozen or so places on rentals.com, that's about the only website I can find. Any suggestions?

I'm looking to rent right now, too, but am doing so long distance before I move. Could you tell me the names or intersections of the two "bad" neighborhoods?
Thanks

The rentals will start becoming more available as the OIT students head home. Can't help it - we're a college town.
Stay out of the Mills Edition. It is bordered by Washburn Way on the East, Shasta Way on the South, South 6th on the South-West, the train yard on the West, and Main St. on the North. East Main St cuts right through the heart of the area.
Go to heraldandnews.com to search the classifieds for current rentals.
Good Luck.

I'm looking for the same thing Dan G-man. I hope to move to Klamath Falls within the next 3 years.
