Hello. I have searched this and I have seen a couple threads but no real numbers, so I thought I would ask and hopefully someone that is living there or at least familiar can let me know: What is the average rent in Hood River for a 1 or 2 bedroom apt? Whats availability like? For some odd reason none of the property management companies there seem to have websites.
Really I'm just trying to get a little familiar with cost of living in the area and how much money it would take to live comfortable/not terrible so that I can make an educated decision if I do have the opportunity to move there. I know that housing is pretty expensive, 200k for a smaller 7-900 sq ft condo and 250k and up for any living over 1000 sq ft it seems, is that about right? Are apartments just as expensive as a mortgage here, or? Thanks! |

I would check the local newspaper. Go to gorgenews.com and click on the link for Hood River News, the paper only comes out once a week, but it has home/apt. rentals. If I remember right, rent is high for that area, especially in the summer when the windsurfers come in. You might be better off renting in White Salmon, WA (just across the columbia river) or 20 miles east in The Dalles. Gorgenews owns the Hood River News and The Dalles Chronicle, so you can find rental listings for those areas in both papers.

Dachmom,
Thanks for the recommendation, for some reason I over looked the local paper (This is embarrassing!) and it definitely helped me get a feel for the cost of putting a roof over my head as well as availability. Thanks. :-) |

dude, if you have to rent, you can't afford to live there. Hood River is for Californians with money. Emphasis is on Californian.

We get it, Californians ruined your life. He was asking about the rent prices, not whether he could afford to live there.
